Afternoon folks!
Disco sailed through its MOT, no advisories, I chatted to the blokey while he was finishing it off. He likes the way I drive my cars and maintain them properly. I like the sensible way he tests our cars!
We swopped funny stories and shocking ones.
Enjoyed it TBH.
Then came home and renewed the insurance via SAGA, 1/3 of the way through my fixed price three year deal.
So all good.
Must remember to put the bins out.

The sticky uppy bits at the left end of the "down" square , and the right end of the of the "up" square?
Would you then superimpose the two waves and what would that tell you? How far out some signal is and what might be causing it?
I am fascinated by all this.
This has been my problem all my life. I love science, mechanics and some forms of technology. I took A level, maths physics and chemistry. But the only one of my teachers who was any good was the chemistry teacher. I didn't understand the "whys" of most of the chemistry, and a good friend and colleague, Head of Chemistry at my place explained that this could well be because no secondary school student can understand much A level chemistry and that understanding only comes some way into a degree.
I had to teach myself the maths cos the two teachers were useless and slow.
The physics teacher was so bad that after I left the school they took him off teaching and put him in charge of careers.
I found myself unable to self-teach A level physics.
I am not naturally gifted in any of these, I just love them. such a shame.:( So it takes me a longish time to "get" what is going on, although I am a bit better now I am in my dotage. Fortunately I am a lot better at practical mechanics, again mostly self taught.
But I would dearly love to understand more about electronics and computers, despite once being able to program in Fortran modern stuff has really gone past me. I'm fine with anything pre ECUs but after that.....

So thanks for showing me stuff. I do appreciate you taking the time with me. ;) :):):)

Yes the sticky up bits are transient spikes created by interference. Again you are correct, I would superimpose the known good signal onto the defective one. You set up what you 'should' see against what is actually output.
I took the pictures just so I could demonstrate one use for the scope. There are many others. I will also use it in conjunction with the spectrum analyser for radio testing. Both audio and rf can be tested and the function generator can be used to inject a signal to see what the circuit is doing rather than running it and being exposed to rf at dangerous levels. I like helping folk understand the things that I find fun :)

After a bit of googling I discovered why high "rf" can be dangerous!
On the hifi tower we bought at auction, the radio doesn't work, or at least it seems to, but no sound comes out. The amp works as it can play both LPs and CDs so I suppose it could be a connection between the tuner and amp but it could also be a problem within the tuner, even though all the lights are on. It has two sorts of aerial/antenna.
I'll have to dig deeper. (TBH we aren't that bovvad cos we don't listen to radio in France, but me being me I like to have stuff working.) I'd like to be able to generate a signal to see if the antenna is picking it up or not. It searches automatically for signals but doesn't stop anywhere so I suspect that this is the problem.
