Gazebos are a little vulnerable to severe weather. The wind in mid-Wales destroys them. Those concertina-style expanding metal bits bend and come apart, even though the adverts show men doing pull ups on them. I've not got one myself, but I know people who do. Interestingly, the manufacturers are quite good about sending replacements, but the following winter nature invariably takes its course again. I don't know how strong the wind gets in your part of France @Stanleysteamer but as it's quite high up I'm guessing it can get rather bracing at times. If you're thinking about cementing stuff into the ground anyway, maybe a stout wooden pergola type of construction that you can put a sheet over when you need it would be more use.
You are right about the wind it has already completely destroyed a hen house and lifted roof tiles off a neighbours place. One sort of wind is so strong it has its own name, the "Vent d'Autan".
BUT we always get adequate warning of when it is coming so could collapse the pergola and put it away until it dies down, which usually takes 3 days. It doesn't damage the polytunnel, but that is anchored to the ground with 10 concrete blocks each made form 50 kgs of cement mix before adding the water, buried about 1 foot below ground. We fitted all the "anti-storm" stuff to make it more rigid. Plus of course the shape of it is less likely to catch the wind.
As for the more permanent one, that is deffo on the list. Along with, still further down the list, a permanent garage.
If we get to the point where living over there on a more permanent basis happens then all that will come to the fore.
And with the battle we have had to get to the point of new visas, this might be soon. The mayor has already asked us if we will be getting Cartes de Séjour! I think he likes "incomers" like us! So with him on our side it might make it easier.
All good advice, thanks Mate!
What puts us off is that local taxes over there are pretty steep and they tax you on every bit of space you create, so a lean-to type car port would be onje tax and an enclosed garage even more.:eek:
