Its that time of year again.
A man I never met, my Uncle "Sonny" (my Father's elder brother) who was killed in the latter stages of the war. Just 20 years old and a tail-end Charlie "Flight Sergeant" in a heavy bomber.
So sad that so many brave young lads had to give everything so that we could be free.

It is difficult to 'like' the post but we are all grateful for his and all the men and women who gave their lives to keep us free.

Don't know that a "like" is appropriate on this occasion, but know how you feel.
I feel similar about my great uncle who fell in the last of his regiment's battles in WW1. (Killed by one of their own shells falling short.)
Obviously never knew him but I knew about him. Won the Belgian Croix de Guerre but never lived long enough to receive it. Don't know what for either and I keep meaning to get on and find out. I did go a long way down the journey to get this info, to the point where I would have to write a letter in French, then stalled for some reason. This date reminds me every year to do it. :(:(:(
EDIT
MY GOD!
Just did a quick google and found this!
I now know what he got it for.
Eyes full of tears.

I have watched the You Tube of the anniversary of the end of the Great War and it is humbling to know that every night there is a ceremony at The Mennen Gate and that to this day the Belgian people are grateful for the sacrifices made.
I would warn you that its a real tearjerker if you are so inclined.

Been there, more than once. It is very close to Lille, which is why I went it is absolutely enormous and covered in names. :(

If I said it’s raining and I am happy is that wrong:).
Our grass is still yellow, it’s November and we have only lit the fire 3 times for a bit of comfort heat.

But getting water in our taps at full pressure would be great:). Washing up in the sink and flushing the loo with pool water is getting tiring;). Oh a shower would be nice too:D.
