There's lots of spoof stuff on the web about ernie. He was born before large scale LS chips came oot. But later on used them. I've written programs to create a test set of numbers, then pick out winners, in loops of millions, looped again in millions to give average of averages, to see what works best to get best value for money on average, to gamble on fings like the lottery. The process goes quite deep.
Sorry @Hippo but the whole point of my original post was not about how to win anything or even the chances of winning.

It was all about whether a method of selecting random numbers from a distribution would EVENTUALLY select every number in the distribution.
And the mathematical fact is that yes, it should. Provided ENOUGH selections were made. AND that the selecting mechanism works properly.;)

I looked up nothing about ERNIE, that fact there have been 5 versions was simply mentioned in passing on the Premium Bonds site and it implied that this was to make him more efficient.;)
You obviously have made a study of him as you know so much more about him. (Dunno why I am calling it "him" just cos they gave it a name although I know it is an acronym!)
So tell me, has all your work resulted in any sort of a "system" that helps you to win more than would otherwise be possible? I admire your sedulous approach to studying this.;):)
My Dad, a retired accountant, used to go to a casino, play the roulette wheel and win. Not big, but enough. (He told me it was deathly boring so he stopped going.):D:D:D
He also developed a bit of a system on the football pools and once won enough to buy a brand new Ford Pop. So I am not going to knock methods of winning.:):):)
I also remember that one bloke won the Lottery, (cannot remember if it was the National or the Euro), but he did the only thing I think you can possibly do to shorten the odds albeit fractionally, he played exactly the same numbers from when it started and they obvs came up.;)
Odds of winning the Euromillions , 1 in 139,838,160. Estimates vary as to how many tickets are sold every draw, (funny that they don't post this info) but say 50 million seems to be reasonable as an estimate. So no wonder it rolls over. Should take three each time!
Pundits say you should choose equal numbers of odd and even numbers and apparently 43% of the time a number from the previous big win shows up again in the next winner!
I need to get dressed and find something else to do!;)
Have a nice afternoon folks!:):):)
