Stored in its side, cool but not cold. It was in my house!! I didn't make it, parents brought it back from a place in France

No, storing it on its side in relative cool and dark is ideal.
12 years is a longish time for many wines. But Champagne, as all wines, have a shelf life so maybe you just came to the end of it. Recently we had to throw away about 12 cases of wine, as they had all gone over. The bloke who sold them to us knew we were buying in bulk cos of Brexit but he never bothered to say, ""oh, by the way, drink them all in the next year or so." bastid. And they weren't cheap either. Funnily his cheaper stuff, with prolly plenty of sulphite in it, is fine.:rolleyes::mad:

That was the last one, bought mid last year. There was next to no fizz in it

I could bore you, and others who read this thread, to death with wines, their storage, their care, decanting etc etc.
All wines have a "use by " date, but all too often this is an "unknown".
We have identical wines we store both in the UK and in France. The ones we store in France always last longer as they are kept cooler. So that is one big factor, but an even temperature is just one factor. Keeping them in the dark is another, on their sides has to be done else the cork dries and...kaput. Even humidity matters.
But what matters most is their vinification which is beyond the buyer's control. Best to ask the wine maker what he/she recommends for keeping, we do this as a matter of course and it is often marked on the label. but you can't do this if you buy it in a shop.
You just have to chalk this one up to experience. At least you enjoyed the others.

Eye has lots ov 40cm pots for me seeds eye is growing into plants. Eye want to grow em in pots before planting some in me garden. Pots will go ootside. Eye is wondering if eye need saucers for them? Pots already have holes in the bottom so excess watta will drain oot. Eye did come up with the idea of putting small 9 inch saucers inside the pot at the bottom to retain some watta. Wot does we fink?
