Neat idea, they works betterer if you unload the mech while shifting. Is there a freewheel on the motor or summink?
The motor is a Bafang Mid-drive, so if you are pedalling it kick's in. You need to pedal slow-ish to do smooth changes on the front mech, yes it has a freewheel...but if the motor kicks in it runs at 72RPM which is a bit fast.
So having the cut-off button (same as a brake-lever cut-off switch) stops the motor and lets you slowly make the change then off you go again.
I did order some switches that operated on my hydraulic brake lines but they were out of stock and cost 86 Euro's, this solution has cost me £2.49 and some time. Result!!! :D

A lovely bright sunny morning.
@Hicap phill I can honestly say not a gram of chocolate has passed my lips. :):):)
I am still trying to sort out and fill my MH- it will be a pleasure to get the bedroom back as it should be after being used as storage for the last few months.
Make the most of your Monday and enjoy whatever you have planned :) and I hope @Dan clarke and family have a great barbecue.:)
