I believe this is how commonality and regularisation of threads etc started. Up until not that long ago companies had their own threads and fuck everyone else.But that may make 2 parts that work together but don't work with anything else?
I need to make these threads compatible with the standard Bicycle threads of other bits that I need to buy in.
The stuff I need to make is custom to my application of those parts.

When i worked flogging Enots pneumatic control equipment, its imperial stuff STILL had their own special thread, and this was in 1975/6!!!!!!!
Their metric stuff was standard though.
I think it was designed in to prevent punters buying in stuff from our competitors and putting it with Enots stuff.
So you could go with your own standard, but you would have to make ALL your own stuff, which as you say would prolly be impractical.
