Well I've swapped the propshafts.
Had a closer look at both of em in daylight and found that, erk, both had cracked cups that hold the big round swivelly thing in the middle of the Hookes joint.
Dunno how much that matters, but the "new" one deffo has no play in either of the U/Js in the Hoooke joint.
Has it made a difference?
Well i drove up and down our single track bumpy mountain road a bit, hard to tell but i think it is still there, although maybe a bit quieter.:rolleyes:
I am now thinking maybe it could be the new rear hub I fetted a few years back as, duuh, there is a tiny oil leak. WTF?
Why this didn't click straightaway with me I don't know. The fact that there were none of the 3 amigos up and the wheel has no play whatsoever in it made me think there wasn't an issue there.
Then Dutch blokey who flogs the bits insists that you can't check a Disco bearing without taking the hub off and that aftermarket ones go t!ts up in only a few thousand miles, makes me wonder.
But in all my driving experience I have never had a wheel bearing go "thrum...thrum...thrum" when on its way out.

And there is me thinking the Hardy-Spicer was the name for an ornery U/J.
The Hooke joint (Or double cardan joint) has two U/Js joined by a ball joint so that as one U/J moves the ball thing moves the other one.

I have done U/Js before and it don't phase me at all but the centre bearing is new territory for me!
If you said that to me before, I'd have thought of the centre bearing on a Mk3 Cortina or some such, but this aint' much like that!

Yup I do replace them when my bollocks hang out usually the right one first as its the bigger brother.
Tis dam cold when out in the boats in winter, plus when im up the hills & snowboarding being warm is at the top of the list. ;)

Ah ok the centring bearing on the double cardon prop, the bearing on the front flange.

Funny you should ask.
What I hadn't planned for was the rozzers closing the M27 in both directions just before I left work. Thousands of vehicles were forced to divert around junctions 8 & 9 and as a consequence it took me four hours (yep, 240 minutes,count em) to travel the 14 miles home. Why? "Concern for the welfare of a man", given the chance I'd have shot the bugger meself. :mad:
Took half a bottle of sauvignon before I could even speak to swmbo :rolleyes:

Still, is a new day, an the sun is shinin and my beloved (wife, not me Tratter) has ensured I need not be idle..at all.. seriously.. :D
