I would just like to say

I just spoke with them, although it is sold, they are still taking viewings. That smacks of encouraging gazumping so I have declined to view it.
Principles will be the death of me!
I fully agree with your stand, I would have done exactly the same.
The Agents are now so eager to fill their bank accounts that they are leaping at the first offer that comes along. I predict there will be a lot of this 'sold' property coming back onto the market. After one of my experiences when the buyer held on to two ' agreed ' buys right until the moment of signing a contract and then made their final choice, I would not be surprised at anything.

...I have a dilemma. :(
MIL (92..3) has no shower since her mixer went all grindy & broken 2 weeks ago. Her son "fixed" her toilet last year and cracked the cistern so it is slowly seeping water.
Useless BIL has sent a couple of bags of assorted 2nd-hand crap in the hope that it helps the situation, but cannot visit or even leave the house to return a LPOA letter to the soli's. So my missus went to get this completed letter/form from him and he dumps all this crap on her "for Mum". Wife tries to get me interested and I say not for me, I want none of that its all $hit I'm not touching it.
We have tried to engage a plumber but he doesn't want the pi55y smelly dirty old woman job and priced it so high as to be out of the firing line (smart man).
TBH, the old gal probably will only live another year or two at most so is it worth splashing out all her savings on a new bathroom? I think not, and the upheaval would be immense for her.
The problem is that if I stick to my guns the wife thinks I am a ba$tard, but if you touch the thing you then own it forever and all the ongoing problems, the place is a can of worms with bodges on top of bodges; which is why I am fighting shy of it.
I can't even put a simple Electric instant shower in there because her wiring is only fit to be condemned and is a ruddy firetrap of TRS rubber wiring held together by hopes & dreams. If a sparky saw it he would take the main fuse out immediately.
I could do the minimum (replace the bog, change the mixer for a surface mounted cheap-o) and put a new Economy 7 water heater in there on the existing wiring) for probably <£600 - 800.
But I would much rather a plumber did it all and suffered all the urine stained carpets and the rotten floorboards.
I am hoping that the other BIL (the decent one) and I can agree to do this together. But I am not hopeful. I don't like to think of the old gal in deprivation but I am sick of being pushed forward to do everybody else's fixing. /rant.
