Went for a bath at 8 this evening and was quite happy until the phone went. Me sister has decided to fit her new toilet and is stuck trying to fit the pipes. Old one was smashed to get it out so it can't go back and she's cut herself in several places. So I has to go round and finish it or they have no water of toilet. Never done a toilet before. The clean water feed pipe was on the wrong side so I undone the nut fitting thing to the flexible pipe and cut the copper pipe shorter so we could fit the flexible pipe back, which would then reach to the correct place. Struggled to get the ring thing oft the copper pipe from the but compression thing. Mole grips did it in the end with some struggling. Then couldn't get that back on the cut pipe as it was a little out of shape. After messing with it to make it sort of round (cut in copper pipe and squeezed together to make a cone to slide it on then reshape) I got it back on and whacked it along with an old metal fitting. Got the pipes connected. Not leaks so far. Seat fitted and a test flush. She dun't do stuff like this but decided she would have a go this time. She were let down by someone who was going to do it for free. I hope this means she'll leave things like this alone next time. Only just got back.
If the clean water feed connection were on the other side it would have been ok. I don't think you can spin the water tank 180 degrees to do this.so she bought the wrong one then

If the copper pipe is the old imperial dia,the newer compression olives do not fit,as they are slightly smaller.Try using a compression push on fittings if you have trouble etc.Best thing to use in your situation is compression push on fittings and fresh copper or plastic pipe.
