Big difference from yesterday weather-wise here, quite cool & cloudy, but no rain as yet.
The garden was almost unbearably hot yesterday afternoon.
The boy's house re-fit rumbles on. Latest shock is that the upper floors will have to be acro propped up to release the weight on an RSJ so it can be slid back 75mm along its wall.
Strongboys and more acro's will be needed to hold the back of the house up while inserting 2 supporting RSJ's across a 5.9 metre span.
They've run all the wiring and plumbing for the kitchen, mounted all new upstairs radiators with new pipework etc. Working long days indeed and an awful lot of work in just 1 week.
They are still a long way away from being able to move in though. These were the same games I had to play on this house 30 years ago, but I had no parents to park my brood at.
You all have a lovely day and take care of yourselves.

Yup.Thas a lot of weight on one beam.
It's funny you should say that as I had the same eye'dear. Eye've come across peeps with beams installed and walls taken out, who admit they feel the floor move upstairs when walking about. Everything done right according to the book. But it would still be on my mind every time the floor moved when walking on it.Yup.
It is in fact twin beams (one for each brickwork leaf) and they are pretty deep in the web section. All calcs done by a structural engineer after doing a site survey.
Is a bit of a monster I agree, but it will really open the place up a lot.
My suggestion was to replace the majority of the false-fireplace brickwork with a steel column and support beam on top and build it into the kitchen as a "feature". But they said no.
