Worm drive in a diff!?Didn't mean lock the handbrake ,just nudge it slowly to load it ,,As you said ,a pal of mine pulled a handbrake on on a old landy ,and broke the worm drive in the rear diff ..
Not on a P38, the old Peugeot 403/404 had worm drive diffs.Worm drive in a diff!?
Perhaps he is thinking of the drive/worm drive on the Farley overdriveWorm drive in a diff!?
I do hope it’s that, with a replacement LT95 now being £6000+ (3 years ago I got it for £340 on flea bay and he was hoping for £1200).A worn clutch release bearing can certainly make a rattling noise, the one on my tractor sounds just like a tin full of marbles being shaken with light pressure on the clutch pedal.
I will try that dude when I put it back up on stands.Didn't mean lock the handbrake ,just nudge it slowly to load it ,,As you said ,a pal of mine pulled a handbrake on on a old landy ,and broke the worm drive in the rear diff ..
Aye the bit that drives the crown gear ,not the planetary bit ether,,,He said it stripped the tooth bit that drives the crown gear ,,think it was an old 110 landy , every time he was parking hed pull the brake on be four he had stopped and it would a made a hell of a racket on over run ...,prob had the front shaft off as well...Worm drive in a diff!?

Would you not see it if you take the starter motor off or would the camera be the wrong side of the flywheel? You may see debris on the starter though.I’d love to here from anyone if they’ve had a failed clutch release bearing, how it sounded and did it make changing gear hard.
I fancy drilling a hole in the bottom of the bell housing and putting a camera up inside to have a look, I could always plug it afterwards
