I need an original D2 Manual map, or just need to see the 'insides' of one to manually adjust mine so it passes emissions. Don't suppose anyone knows of one lying around I can take a few settings from?

(My D2 was remapped, but I don't have the backup of the original map, which I now need to put back on!)

thanks

Would it not be easier to just get another std ECU (code to your car) and swap out, for MOT times.

I dont know your experience of changing maps so will not question if you know what is involved.

Did it pass emission before on this mapped ECU? If so then its more likely engine related telling you something.

Head onto Empire Tunings website, they have a portal to download original map files.
Great thanks, will have a look
However if correctly tuned it should pass Mots without issue
Didn't realise that
if it fails while all the sensors are OK and the engine is running well the fuel map is cr*p and probably high EGTs too...
In that case it sounds like the map is the problem. Funnily enough, I have always had a plume of whitish smoke when under engine braking (like downhill holding a lower gear). It worried me at first (head gasket) but that's fine.
The car has just had full service (and is always well-maintained), sensors are all good, new MAF sensor on it.

What are EGTs?

Sorry, looked at all pages and couldn't find this. Found 'Dealer Portal', is that what you mean? So I need to apply for an account and then may be able to download original map?

You need a Nanocom to reflash.

Who mapped the car? Looks like it needs redoing.

In a pinch find the smoke sticker, top left corner bulkhead in the engine bay. Its black and silver. Remove that.

Unplug the map sensor & temp sensor. Will default to minimal fueling and should pass.

Not that im suggesting you do this of course. You should infact be sure you car is in good state of repair.

If the remap was made by dynachip i think it's quite old and at that time i'm sure it was the "old school" injector duration map so if you want something much better get a "new style" AFR based remap with limiters adjustments which is the way to go these days

This is double dutch to me but will do some research and learn more as it's interesting.

More detail may help:

2004 TD5 which was a minter when I got it a few years back (still very nice condition). Have spent a lot (chassis replacement for one thing!)

I sent ECU to Dynachip. Was never happy but it was an improvement over factory map, basically just gave a bit more oompf when the turbo had spooled up. Still like a dog below that (not complaining, I understand these engines are generally sluggish anyway just due to how turbos work), but was overall unimpressed with the map. Lived with it until a year or so ago when a friend offered me another map he had (used to do remapping). That did improve it a bit more, still would love to go for variable vain turbo and intercooler etc when can afford to.

It failed MOT for emissions on that second remap. Put back the Dynachip map, failed again.

I am wondering if there's something else going on causing the emissions.

It will.be because of old school mapping which is basically set injectors to max and away you go.

I would suggest speaking to Empire Tuning and having it redone from scratch.

However if it is still very smokey with a standard map I would suggest

- clean the MAP sensor with contact cleaner - located left side of the engine on the inlet manifold
- check your air filter is in good condition
- check the air intake system isnt blocked, birds can get in. Ive seen it a few times.
- check all boost hoses are sound, not split or delaminating - they can often compress under boost
- check your intercooler isnt leaking. - normal tell tall sign is heavy oil patches around it.
- check your turbo wastegate is free, when disconnected from the turbo it should move easily
- its been serviced with the correct spec and grade oil

Did it pass on the Dynachip map before? if it did before then suggest it maybe something has changed with engine. Maps dont change themselves.

These 2 quotes confirm you really don't know enough to fiddle with yourself, yet ;).

Sorry just being honest.

As it seems Dynachip are not around, I would personally again suggest a std ECU to get it through an MOT then get what you have remapped to todays "knowing"

I expect it will fail again

Check the boost, may need a new GENUINE MAF, but mine failed as too sensitive, out flowing, put new one on, sluggish, turned up boost on the rod, lots better, and cleaner.

Agreed.

Or download mafless software, be done with the dicky expensive sensor

Hi mate, this is a really interesting comment!

As you may remember (bit of a stretch) I had Mike at dynachip map my td5 (early 1999 10p, but fitted with a 2002 ecu), around 9 years ago.

I've driven the landy plenty, towing, offloading, it's been my daily drive. However, I may be getting sensitive in my older age, but the plumes of black smoke, unburnt diesel, aren't sitting happily with me, and I didn't realise that Mike basically set the injectors to be 'open' 😂, I guess dumping more fuel in.

Do you still recommend Empire? I've read up on their site, and the joint project with your 110 (impressive stuff). If I get them to send me a 10p ecu, will I have to match it to my injectors? On the site it says I won't have to and just fit it and drive, but I thought they had to be matched specifically?

Many thanks for any help! 😊

If it's well remapped by AFR and limiters(which seems is the way Empire is doing it) the injector codes are neglectable

sell the NNN ECU cos it goes for good price and get a properly remapped MSB... then it must run perfectly... or send them the NNN on exchange basis and ask for discount on remapped MSB cos the NNNs are more expensive

Morning mate! Thanks so much for such a quick reply!

I'm pretty good at all mechanical bits, but the slightly more tech bits I'm not fully read up on... the NNN ecu I take it is the later one usually run on 15p? MSB is the sealed one that you cannot remap from outside? Sorry for the ignorance!! 😁
