I would recommend 2 things.
1) Join GLASS.
2) Find a local club who greenlane and get speaking to some of them. Learn how they find good lanes and get info on them.

All Terrain UK also has a dedicated mapping system (SmartTrail) for helping members to find lanes nationally, as well as a route sharing section on their members only forum.

Yes. The colour changes depending on which scale map you are using. On the OS 1:25000 the byways are green, but on the 1:50000 they are red (as per your image).
I have been down a couple of fun lanes near me but can't find many more. Where is a good place to find some gentle off road action for my GS? Do I really have to resort to buying a GPS or other gadgets to find a green lane? I can't think of anything else to try besides just tearing across the local golf course that is, and I must say i've been tempted.
Well your location (not postcode) might help to narrow down some answers or locals willing to have you tag along.
I have always used ordnance survey maps, find the numbered map for your chosen area and either buy new or get on ebay.
Then you go and find the lanes, but just because they are on the OS map does not mean you can drive them, see what the signs say at the lanes ends, also a lot of lanes are closed this time of year.
