I've just fitted 2 smart looking QT Diff Guards. Whoopie-do!:p

I'd Just like to know how long you think it should take as I may have been a bit slow. :D

Can't really see the point in QT style diff guards. Why protect owt other than the soft bit? The axle is cast if ya bust that ya really are doin' summat wrong. I fitted cheapo diff guards and it took about 35 seconds.

Ooh - I've got a pair waiting to be fitted. I woudl be really grateful if you could pass on any tips.

Cheers

On the front.....

Do actually remove the bump stop - you'll graze your knuckles otherwise:mad:

Once you have the top Diff nuts off and the top bracket in place - do not tighten immediately. I would recommend attaching the guard to the top bracket (once it is in place) loosely before attaching the guard to the axle. The top bracket is easier to bend into place with the weight of the guard attached, rather than fixing the guard and trying to bring the guard and top bracket together with clamps as recommended. Fix to axle then tighten everything else.

On the rear - same idea. I found it easier to attach the guard to the top bracket first - the weight also brings the top bracket away from the brake pipe which would rub and bang otherwise until everything was tightened. On my TD5, this was the most difficult bit. I also twisted the orientation of the guard slightly to secure one of the axle bolts and was then able to push it straight again to secure the second.

If I had of tried this way first, I would have been a lot quicker.;)

Today I fitted my steering guard! :D That's me done for a bit. My arms are aching.

Phil - thanks for taking the time to reply, hopefully it'll save me some grief and skin-loss!

Now, does anyone have a pic of them installed, and where the brackets go?

This might help, excuse the scribbles...... :D

Glad to be of help. :)

Start at the existing Diff bolts at the top and work anti-clockwise but don't tighten anything until you have it loosely fitted.

Let us know how you got on and how long it took when you've finished?

Rgds,

Arn't they on the same lines as Kenlowe fans and chequer plate? i.e. fashion acsessories. If you're going fast enough to damage your diff housings you're doing something wrong. Unless your doing rockcrawling type thing stuff I suppose.

looking at them i'd say the diff housing was stronger than the guard so if you hit somefink hard enough, so that it would damage the diff without the guard then surely if the guard is weaker than the diff. you still do damage even with the guard fitted.(phew).
if that don't appear to make sense ,tough, i know wot i mean.
