Hi fishhead,
This happened on my hippo not so long back. I had the larger multi functional screen that had the clock or radio station/cd track number displayed..
As i have an aftermarket JVC CD/MP3 fitted, the clock only ever showed the time anyway (or bits of it!!!)
I bought a new clock off ebay.. its the smaller screen clock from later model freelanders (2000+) but if your gonna buy one, heres a top tip - they go for around £30 quid on ebay, but honda civics & accords from 2000 onward use the same clock, and they go dirt cheap!! I got mine for £3.10p and free delivery!! The only problem was it glowed orange instead of green..
Easy to sort though.. take both your clocks apart, take the green translucent strip out of the old clock, take the orange one out of the new clock, trim the green strip down to size and put in the new clock, and itll be green just like it should be!!
Youll also need to adjust your 8 pin connector (on multi funcional dispays) to fit the more modern 4 pin clock...
If you decide to do it, look at one of my old posts and ive said how to wire it in.. Its a piece of ****... snip 4 wires from the loom, solder to the back of your new clock and presto, job done.
Note though, if you still have the original land rover radio hooked up top the display, you will have no choice but to either repair the display you have, or buy an identical one (the cheapest 2nd hand one ive seen is £53) otherwise without the multifunctional display, the LR head unit wont work.
