Hi guys,
Considering buying a landrover again so figured I'd tempt fate by reading stuff here again to 'catch up' on whats what!

Prices are bonkers for cars here with ten year old freelanders fetching £10k (well the diesel autos at least) and Defenders even more (aren't they everywhere!)

I loved the defenders I drove for years at work in East Africa but the other half won't hear of one here. Still a drafty defender and minus 25 might not be a good idea.

She also thinks a Discovery is "too big", so that really only leaves a road I've already been down, but the cost of spares here frighten me, and lets be honest with a freelander I'm likely to be on first name terms with the shop pretty quick.

I can probably afford up to a 2004 diesel freelander or 2001 disco (for my ten grand :(). I do hanker after the freelander 2 but the price jump for these is still shocking here. Is it 'that' much better I ask myself?

Been running a 16 year old Saab 900S which has been great, huge boot for tools! But the tinworm is gradually making it a 'lightweight' although it just passed the test (every two years here!). I want to sell it with a full 'ticket' and get back into a proper car for the weather we get here.

Thats me!
Cheers
Ian

Hi Mate. Don´t worry what the other half says. Just go for the Disco. Don´t touch a freelander for gods sake

How do. :) Disco!!!! Is it too much trouble or expense to buy one in England and register it over there?

:welcome2::welcome2:

Isnt everything in Norway expensive?

There are plenty of parts suppliers in the uk who will post out to Norway for a reasonable price

Cheers guys,
Steering towards the Discovery! Jeeze, just looked on finn.no the local 'place to buy' and Disco 2's are in the 4 to 10k range but disco 3, start, yes, start at around 25K for a 6 year old motor.

Remind me again why we moved here! Oh yes, it has blond hair and blue eyes :)
Better start some serious saving.....

I know Ben, just looked on autotrader, looks like you can get a good Disco 3 for under 10K. Lot of metal for the money, esp when compared to the kind of defender you get for the same money.

I'll be happy with a Disco from 2002-2004 say. The hunt is on!

:welcome2: ian , have fun searching for and driving your eventual choosen landy. still reckon it would be cheaper to buy one here and drive it home. what about other n.european countries , germany , poland or maybe denmark somewhere a bit closer than here , not so many ferry journeys to take. you could always go one 'holiday' somewhere there next year but really go to look at landies and drive it home . have fun on this forum too , there ate some great folks on here!

I built a trike last year for a one armed bloke in norway cos it was cheaper with dual nationality for him to get one here and ride it over to norway when he went to live there for a few months at a time.bloody expensive place from what i could gather.

I picked up my 90 on "holiday" in the UK, was much cheaper

Been looking to find a 'wrinkle' in the law but it seems difficult. The only way to avoid the huge tax is to import a vehicle over 30 years old, as they are exempt!

Well, I already have one of those ready to come over! I bought a Daimler two door coupe (XJC) when I was 19.......(25 years ago, shoosh!) that is languishing in a garage in Newark waiting until I have space for it here.....road trip anyone lol!

Only trouble with bringing one from the UK (apart from the tax) is that the steering wheel is on the wrong side :)

Someone said about other EU countries and that might be possible, Sweden is only a couple of hours away and stuff is cheaper there, well, beer and wine at least!

I think for now I am going to grab a cheap older Disco and work on getting rich so that I can afford something better......eventually.
