I thought you could use the diff center in an older 4.7 crown wheel and pinion i thought i'd need a spacer from ashcrofts but mabe there is more to it as its metric to imperial

I am now on par with you on the V8 ownership even if it doesnt currenty run. Lol
If we find out what Cam has actually been fitted, its possible its a fast road cam which is no good for what I want. If it is indeed not what I need it will be for sale.

I'm not bad thanks; just lacking enthusiasm this morning. So much I should be doing but really can't be bothered.

I must admit, I ache a bit today after spending what seemed like an eternity sorting out a swivel bearing. It seems although the Rangie is a 1991, the swivel housing is 1990, so when I first reassembled, the top swivel pin wouldn't tighten down, took me a while to spot it, but the 1990 housing doesn't have the needle bearing int eh top, just a single thrust washer.

So sorted that then re-assembled but had to use all the shims to get the pre-load right. I can't help thinking somebody has been in there before but gave it a run up the road and all seems O.K., at least there is no death wobble on thebrakes on an uneven road surface. Not like earlier in the week, I seriously thought I was gonna end up in a ditch, just couldn't hold it on the brakes coming down to a roundabout at 60ish.

Sphincter factor 10 moment!! Hay ho, at least I had a good idea what the problem was.

Suppose I better get motivated, catch you later.

Lol I have loads to do also but unfortunatly it involves a fence and lots of time which I have no care for but muct be done lol.

What the cam or the engine??

For what it costs why not just get a new cam and bang it in, at the same time you can do those bits that will make sure you have a sweet V8. If you need a hand you know where I am. If the engine is out and on a bench/engine stand it should be really quick and easy to do all the essential bits, head gaskets, followers, cam, timing chain, oil pump refurb, dizzy service etc.

Well the cam is unknown but looks like its been fitted recently as the engine is spotless, I Plan was to put on the inlet manifold and see if it would run before doing anything. Its a 3.9 bolted to a series gearbox. I'll do some pics later today its a huge project so will take ages especially as its winter but there is lots I can do rollcage needs cleaning up and painting, transferbox needs to be replaced, axles need to be thought out for strength and lots of things I'll be doing it for ages but it'll be fun!

All I know about the cam is its a krane which suggests its not standard and whoever choose it may well have looked at the BHP figures and got some crazy fast road cam.

Why would you want to do that!!

The standard cam as I understand it was profiled to give a good balance between power and torque. A hairy cam kills the bottom end and V8's don't like to rev hard so really it seems a bit of a waste unless it's in a road car and you then play around with the injection (if fitted) and ignition.

Mind you I suppose the noise might be worth it if you can afford to put the petrol in it:eek:

well as I say there is loads to get done before playing with the engine so as you say hey ho I'll get around to it. Lol Jai

Hehehehe. I know exactly what you mean...... one day eh!

If you want to see if it runs let me know, I'll pop over and give you a hand. As long as all the bits are there, it has fuel and a battery I'm sure it will run - eventually.

Cheers Kev,

Well its far from having fuel and a battery lol but thats all on the list a very loooong list.

I'm still going through all the rules and regs as you cant just bung on a fuel tank on it has to be covered and only vent from underneath as to protect the passengers when you roll it. sealt belts only a lap belt required, lots of regs tp comply with.

It all looks like soo much fun Its got to be done!
