Is whaddon full of clueless std motors then?Never been.As gman said its half the fun cos you get unlimited take the **** rights.Altghough I agree with jai some people are more of hinderance than a help-dead useless.:mad2:

No it's not, but like any P & P site, you get a few clueless idiots. Everybody gets stuck at some time. I'll help anybody once, but if they keep going back into stuff their motor obviously can't handle, then they can stay stuck, let someone else pull them out.

At P & P's I'll always have a go at marginal stuff and likewise mates with me. As long as you're not going to destroy your motor, that's all part of the fun.
For me the best fun is when you're at or very near the limits. If you can't have a go, there's no point in going there. If I think a mate has a reasonable chance of getting through, I'd encourage him because he knows that if he doesn't make it, me or someone else would get him unstuck.

Spot on.

Helped drag a guy out at KORC once, I was right angled, chained as secondary anchor to the rear of a defender with a front winch that got him out of a 4' mud hole, with his engine dead, hydrauliced. When he got out we helped him undo injectors, turn the engine over and basically got him going again. we did all the dirty work while he and his mates, stood to one side laughing and joking about it ...

Before we'd unchained ourselves the chap got back in, moved a couple of feet forward, then shouted YeeHar or similar turned and drove at full speed back into the hole!!

We told him what we thought, cleared our gear away and ****ed off ... We think his mates didn't actually have any recovery stuff and called the KORC marshalls to get him out -eventually- with their Manitou ..

I have every sympathy for people who are 'on the edge' and have a go, but to take the **** with no equipment at all is just too much. Indeed I only have AT's, but have enough recovery kit and have a smal clue about using it and will help anyone, but there are limits.

Glad we got that sorted, sounds like we all pretty much agree everyone gets stuck, lend a helping hand to those who have made a mistake or were trying something sensibly at the limit without being stupid, but don't suffer fools who aren't worthy of your generosity, your time or your tow rope. Or something like that eh?

I went to Whaddon on road tyres and looked down from the top field and thought no way am I going down there! I had fun watching everyone and saying "I need that!" and "I want one of those"

I only have General Grabber UHP tyres and when I went laning I was told if I got stuck I would be pulled out backwards and it would probably damage the front bumper. I took the risk but if something happened there would be no-one to blame but myself.

Before I go out again I will have at least a steering guard with recovery points, a rope, a cb and a pair of boots. As time goes on I will get more and hopefully learn more as well.

I was admiring my engine bay after pelham then we did the other lanes and its back to being a right state again:D
Wife dirtied her trouser leg on the treesliders earlier so thats me in the dog house again!

OOOPPS! Know what you mean, got the pressure washer out earlier and was surprised how much crud had accumulted. At least it's still running and in one piece:) What did you think of my backward photography?

Hey Spyderman, I forgot to ask - how did your brakes hold up yesterday?
I've got brakes on 3 wheels only. Hub seal is fooked. I'm going to strip down both sides and as is my way, replace everything with new, new bearings, seals, the lot. I'm replacing the front propshaft and drive flange too.

I'm not sure how much of it will stay as a 1981 Land Rover, almost everything is new. Would have been cheaper to buy a 5 year old Defender, but everybody's got one of those.:D

Mine's really clean. Only the tyres got muddy in the lanes, never touched down anywhere. The Fords really cleaned it up, plus doing Batford on the way home finished it off. Nipped under it to take the wade plugs out this morning and it's pristine. Will make working on the front end a lot nicer.

Will need to buy a jet wash from ebay on my next pay check landy needs a good going over, full service, stripping out and sound proofing floors bolting down and refitting the dash. Jai
