Help with Sale ( Clueless Newbie!)

I hope you don't mind if I ask for some help in what asking price would be resonable for selling my Landy.. I have no idea and don't want to get ripped off.

I have a Series 3, hardtop, 2¼ Diesel, shortwheel ..X reg Landy that I have had for the last 3 years. Unfortunately I am having to sell her and have no idea what price to ask for.

She is in Great Condition for her years and the only major probs with her at the moment is a small hole under the passenger seat and being in need of a new fuel Tank.. other than that she is perfect with clean bodywork etc..She has been sat on the drive for over a year now too.. but has been kept clean and looked after... Has original manual + newer version too

I paid £1200 for her back in 2002 and just have no idea what a resonable offer would be for her now... I don't expect to get £1200 lol but I don't want to give her away.. so any ideas?...

A few extra questions that might help people come up with a price;

What's the mileage (not a huge factor from what I've seen) & is it genuine (do you have old MOTs that might give a clue that it's real)?

I presume it has no MOT? - That will make quite a big difference.

Have you any service receipts? - It can make quite a difference if you can demonstrate she's been looked after.

If a small bit of welding & a secondhand fuel tank was all that was needed for a new MOT it might be worth your while doing it prior to selling. If it's as tidy as you say with a ticket on her you could get your money back.........in my humble opinion.

I've just bought a III a year younger than yours & paid £1750, but she is worth it. Tidy, looked after, 42000 probably genuine miles, new MOT, oil & water tight, easy to start, all electrics working & a solid & waxoyled bulkhead & chassis. You really do seem to get what you pay for with Landys (unless they've been cleverly tarted up to sell!) Sure I saw some III's for half the price I paid or less, but they really were shot.

ISTR that one of the parts dealers is selling petrol tanks ever so cheap, sounds as if it could change your luck...

Thanks for the Adv ! Unfortunately I moved to a different county last year and left the landy on my Mothers Drive !.. I'm too far away to do much and was let down badly by someone who i gave money to, he took off the tank for me and was supposed to get another one ... he never did!.. So she has no MOT or Tax.. and although she is sound apart from those two major blibs... I am prepared to take a loss... I just don't want to give her away !! lol..

Dunno then, it's always difficult relying on other people to sell things for you too. I left some camera gear for my folks to sell while I was abroad & they got ripped off by some low life.

Maybe just try a price you'd like to get & if you don't get much interest lower it a bit. Sounds obvious, but you don't want to go too low & find you have so much interest that you wish you'd advertised a higher price in the first place.

Post it for sale on this site maybe, it sounds like someone might get a result.

An auction sale on Ebay would appear to fit your requirements perfectly - true market value, minimum involvement.

I'd go along with that.

Bought my III on there & she's a beaut. A lot of Ebay success for bigger items is down to honesty & good communication. If you've access to email, which you obviously have it would be a good place to try.

It gives you the chance to enter into dialogue with a prospective purchaser to give them the real deal on the vehicle rather than relying on 30/60 pre chosen words to sell it. You can post paragraphs of detail to start with for very little filthy lucre too.

Ebay would be my choice of sale. For a couple of pound you can have photos, a reserve price and all with out leaving the comfort of your home! Just be as honest as you can, give her a good clean before photos, set yourself a reserve price and see what happens! I bought my 1991 200Tdi Discovery on there. The bloke couldn't do enough for me. If I wanted a photo of the engine bay, he'd email me some back the next day. All my questions were answered. I find when selling a car, that there is nothing worse than someone phoning in the middle of lunch just to ask what shade of blue the car is! With ebay its all there for people to see. I sold my motorcycle on E-bay recently and then bought my SIII via the same. No problems with it at all. If you have access to web hosting, take a load of pictures and put them on a site with a link through from e-bay, that way the buyers can see pictures that are a lot larger and better definition than the e-bat hosting. That helps encourage bidders.
