2001 P38 2.5 DSE. I drop the key in the sea. And the only spare key I have is a key without remote. That key have never worked. So tomorow I will call the dealer for hopefully get a ned key.

What are my options?

I have a complete set with key barrels and becm from my last p38 96 4.6.

Is it possible to change the becm, key barrel in the steering column and driving door? Will it start after that?

Greetings from Norway

Atle

But seriously....
Fob locking/unlocking is over-rated.
Fix your drivers door-latch link and switchpack and use just that.

Agreed . My keys lost remote opening out of the blue. Must be over a year ago, maybe closer to two. Itried to synch, stealer tried and auto-electrician tried. No joy. Stealer wants £400ish per key.

Key from dealer is about £170 and quick if the bloke at Huf in Germany isn't on holiday.

BECM etc can be switched over but you'll need a Nanocom or similar to change the engine and program the engine EMS code into it.

I have Nanocom.
How to program EMS code? Is it a number that must be equal in the becm?

Hopefully the dealer can get me a new key.

I did read a thread somewere that key number 3 & 4 is not available anymore...

if you have a key blade you can disable the locking sand use just the key nanocom can set it

I have a key blade without remote. This fits the locking cylinder and steering column.

What’s “locking sand”?

I thought that it was impossibly to program another key with Nanocom?

You are correct, it isn't possible to program keys with nanocom.
What you can do is turn off the alarm and immobiliser in nanocom.
This will allow you to use the car with the key blade without the need for eka every time.
If you want remote locking, then you need a new key and it is dealer only.

Don't even think about swapping the BECM over, you could find yourself in a world of pain.
You have a Nanocom, go into the BECM and turn off the EKA code and Immobiliser, don't forget to write back the new settings, then you can operate the car with just the key. I have done this on both my P38's.
Key #3 is still available but dealers seem to have an order form that specifies key #1, so they have to be persuaded that jey #3 can be ordered.

I hope you are correct and I will try tonight.

Have you done it?

Will it actually work?

On Nanocom go to and select BECM with ignition switched OFF. You will see a message on dash "Diagnostic mode" go to settings >>> Alarm, disable immobiliser. Go to EKA disable EKA. Go back and write settings. Switch ignition on key should work in ignition without any messages.

Ignition will not work until the "Diagnostic Mode" message disappears which takes some time.

Switching the ignition on turns off diagnostic mode. Diag mode will not work with ignition on.
On both mine switching off the ignition does not turn off "Diagnostic Mode" immediately, I have not timed it, but it seems like a long time when I'm waiting for it to go off, certainly 30 seconds or more.

As the commands have been written to the BECM when ignition is switched on they become active. Diagnostic mode will not work with ignition on, it goes off, to be fair i have not noted it taking a long time to go off. But it is a while since i have used it.

Followed your instructions and it works!

Thank you thousand times to all for your support!!

Glad you're sorted.

Just for the record. Yes, EMS is engine management system and the code on the chip in the engine ECU must match the one in the BECM. Engine one cannot be changed (easily) but BECM can.

You can have any key you like but it has to be different from the fob you have or they keep knocking each other out of sync. If you have memory seats you'll want 1 or 2.

The key has to be different from the FOB? It's true that you cannot have 2 FOB's with the same code.
