heres the story.... drowned my disco got water in engine took glow plugs out and got all the water out and it started up fine and drove home. started it up and few more times during the week to move it about and it was starting first time everytime. however i went to start it one night to got to work and i thort il just check my lights before i start it to see if they still work they did so i turned them off then went to start it and it wouldnt i was just getting a clicking noise from the passenger footwell after a few tries it did start but now its not starting at all just the clicking from the footwell, i identified the noise to be coming from a relay so i replaced it with a brand new relay and tried to start it but its still clicking and not starting. any ideas what it could be its booked in at the garage on wednesday 15th sept but it doesnt look like im gonna be able to get it there

think you might be right just tried bridging gap with a spanner on starter to try start it tat way and its just clicking, gave it a good smack and it still didnt work

either solenoid fried or relays ****ed through shorted out try tapping the starter again while bridgeing it with the spanner it used to work on minis

A good indication for brain rot is when people think that if a seal keeps oil in, it will keep water out. Well, I got news for you: it doesn`t. The main reason is that crankcase, axle and gearbox seals are designed to work under about 0 (zero) bar pressure, and that 1 m of water will give you 0.1 bar of pressure per cm”, which is usually enough to let water in. If your crankcase seal has an area of say 10 cm”, that means that there is 1 bar of pressure on that seal and you can bet your wife`s birthday present on it that that will not keep the water out.
So, if you MUST get wet, enjoy it to the full, BUT drain ALL oil from your vehicle THE NEXT DAY and replace it. The mayonaise-like substance that you may find in your gearbox after 2 weeks has very poor lubricating properties. Same goes for your axles and swivel joints. And if you have been driving with your engine submerged for longer than ten minutes, you may well find the same salad-dressing-colored oil in your engine as well. So this is basically all I can say about direct effects of water on your drivetrain and engine, but there are a couple of other considerations that might be added here:

i was just having a read here and found the above

Water: Leisure and Emergengy

thats why its off to the garage to have all the oils changed, didnt drive for long underwater before it died. did the diff oils myself but i cant get the sump plug off and wouldnt know where to begin with gearbox and transfer box, im only a girl lol and im still learning

it was the starter motor, i managed to get it off and get the new one on took me about 2 half hours might sound a long time but to say id never done one before and im a girl i dont think thats bad going :D feeling quite proud of myslef right now lol

it always feels good to save yourself a few quid by not taking it to the garage. im not looking forward to changing the rear diff tho i can hardly lift them stood up let alone laid on my back trying to lift it in to place!!!
