Hand Break keeps sticking, suspect it is as a result of wading. It sticks such that even after driving for 30 mins plus, it still holds on slight incline etc. I have tried to release by playing with adjuster but to no avail - so question - is this inevitable regardless of gear or does it suggest inferior equip. I suspect the former but would welcome views and, if appropriate, what precautions can be taken, ta

Have ye had a look inside the drum tae see if it's full o' ****e or the return springs are knackered? Just a thought;)

Ah'm meant tae be havin' a look at mine the night and maybe changin' the shoes, ah'll nae doubt take some photies anaw;):D

the handbrake on my 90 is sticking too, so today I was going to take the rear prop out and have a look, couldnt fit the prop tool between the nut and UJ and then started to get stressed and didnt evena guide of where to look and what to do...so turned to other jobs and fitted me steering guard.....

Ah'll see what ah can do mate;) Just waitin' fur me tea to arrive then will probably get stuck intae it;):D

yeh, I figured that one out as I could only undo the nut on the top.. but to rotate the prop meant moving the landy or jacking the rear wheels up..? (am i right here?, it wont turn otherwise...)

at this point the stress was so much that i couldnt be bothered to move it.. lol

Ye could jack the back up, chock the front wheels, stick diff intae nuetral and release the handbrake..... or, stick diff in nuetral, release handbrake and push the landy with yer feet from below. Just make sure ye're on the flat before ye do the last suggestion!;):D:D

drive is on a slight slope, so cant really do the option of pushin with my feet.....
jacking only one rear wheel up will be enought right?

might also buy new nuts and bolts as they seem a bit rusty...

yeh, knew they were cheap, but hadnt look for it yet....
will probably buy 2 sets of those... front and back prop, take both out and check condition and grease...

I do it on the Disco every 2 times out on the plains, doesnt take long as saves a lot of trouble in the future...

On the 90, as it hasnt been long in my hands Im still giving it a once over, including, greasing and checking all the bits and scrub, clean and paint chassi and axles..

maybe a bit too much, but I like it!
just a shame i dont have a 4 post hydraulic lift on me drive..hehehe

When adjusting handbrakes its always a good idea to disconnect the cable, or just make sure its well slackened off, you then adjust the drum and then go for the cable. If you do it the other way you often get mad problems with them.

And all the other suggestions **** in the drum, springs etc, cable siezed.

Get a pair of vice grips on the cable and work it back and forth somebody at the other end on the lever. If its sticking chip it and get another, most are lined with nylon and once they are sticking they have had it, or they are rusted and if you free them they just rust up again.

Dont know if this will help but this is how I replace handbrake shoes.

unbolt and slide back the drum over the prop,

lever off old shoes,

assemble new shoes and springs on the prop and slide a small nail into the spring loop to retain them on the spring,

lever spring/shoe assembly into place and remove holding nails,

refit drum. simples - 10 min job.

Busterbus, did yer tea arrive, stovies or haggis lol. Did you get around to the handbreak ? I dunno how to strip it down so lookin for some guidance (and photos) from fellow jock. Ta
