Yep. slacken the adjuster completly, did it so much that i could push and pull the cable by hand so i could see how it operates, trying to figure out which way the slopes go...

but the pistons went in, just like you explained, with the slope on the right position, took me ages to work it out!!

the bolt on the left side, i couldn't undo it at all, so just left as it was....

not sure about the flat ends, but will check tomorrow..im almost sure they went in the same way they came out though, but will check.

what puzzles me is that i put the pistons the correct way on the cable end, but they wont go any further in, and by them not going any further in..the shoes wont go in further and they rub on the drum...

do the pistons move a lot? when i was fitting them in i was operating the cable by hand while appling pressure with the other hand to the 2 piston to make them go in, but when the cable is pulled, the pistons dont come out much, just a few mm.. is this normal?

so, the drum is not supposed to be a tight fit in there then?

The bolt ye mention, is that for the adjuster on the left side?

The pistons don't go all the way in on the cable side.
Here's a couple of photies of before and after...

Ah keep thinkin' about that 'bolt' on the left side... if it is for the adjuster then it'll need to be slackened off to bring the shoes in a bit.

Ah never really checked how far the pistons moved mate as ah just stuck the drum on. Ah did notice that it helps if the drum goes back on square. If there's any tilt it'll just stick.;)

well, thanks for that mate!

it looks just like mine.. but i now i think why the bolt didnt move (the adjuster on left) its because i tried to move it with the shoes on..
probably when they are off there's no pressure on the bolt! so i'll try that tomorrow and give it another go..

to adjust the cable I suppose you pull the cable until it just tensions, do the nut on the inside of the bracket and then the one on the outside right?

all this done with the handbrake lever down..correct?

thanks for the help!

The bolt should move with the shoes on mate. If ye look in the photies ah put up in the last post, ye'll notice in the hole that the pistons fit in, it's square on top. The pistons should have the high side restin' on it so when ye turn it it pushes the pistons out.

What ah did was kept everything as was ( ah only slackened off the outside nut originally) and when ah got the drum on, gave the handbrake lever a good tug to centralise the shoes... before ah did this, the drum felt a bit tightish when tryin' to turn it by hand. Once that was done, ah made sure the drum turned freely, adjusted the left adjuster, then slackened the inner nut and tried the h/b lever to see how many clicks ah got then adjusted it until ah got 3 clicks, released the lever and makin' sure the drum could still turn freely and locked it up with the outer nut on the cable

thanks for the help!

Nae wurries and ah hope ye get it sorted mate;)

done mate!!!

you were right, I had the shoes on the wrong way, and also once i took the shoes off, then i could adjust the left bolt a lot easier as when it turns it pushes the pistons out, so with the shoes off there was no pressure there...

brilliant stuff!! the drum moves freely now!!!

just in for a cuppa and then im out with the grease gun for a tour around the nipples.. (Oooeerr!!!) :D

its a pain to do all this lying on your back! i wonder if the neighbours will get ****ed off if I install a four post hydraulic lift on the drive? hahahha
