Hi there

New to the forum, and have edited this post.

Have one Discovery 2 (TD5 registered in 2000), a Pajero Sport which won't interest anyone here, and access to a friend's D1 Camel Trophy, which I'm curious to find out more about.

Can anyone tell me how to find out its history, i.e. whether it's the genuine article or a homemade replica? Would Land Rover tell me for free if I email them the Chassis Number / VIN?

Thanks!

Hi,

Welcome to the mad house.

I don't think id be putting my vin number on a public forum though if i were you, especially if it is a camel trophy vehicle as there quite sort after. But that's just me.

Other thing to note is that unless you donate to the site then your liable to get flamed for promoting the company. Not that you have yet, I'm just letting you know.

LZ is a great site, there is a wealth of information here and a great vibe, BUT the inmates will tell you whats what if it warrants it. :p

Enjoy.

i must admit it confuses me about hiding vin/reg nos online

they are available for everyone to see on the vehicle so what can disreputable people on the internet use them for?

OK, shall remove the VIN - why is it a risk to put up?

And shall unpromote!

In this day and age with land rover thefts at a high it would be advisable not to just announce your vehicles identity. With highly prized and desirable motors such as camel trophy or G4's then what is to stop someone from cloning your car and passing theres off as the original?

Anyway, its your car and your post you can do with it as you wish

Well, I'm in Albania where anything is possible, so I could easily set up a garage cloning the Trophy...

Thanks for the advice, will be circumspect re VIN numbers...
