Now, which part are you referring to there?
I believe that a car can pass its mot with no windscreen (it will be flagged as an advisory.) Now, as far as I'm aware, most cars are originally fitted with one as standard. Using the same logic and as my tester explained if an auxiliary lamp, ie foglamp, is not there it can't be tested. Obviously this does not apply to the fixed standard to all vehicle lighting system ie head, side, rear, brake and indicator lights. The reversing light is not currently part of the mot requirements.
A reverse lamp is not testable, it doesn' have to work, the car will fail if the reverse lamp is always on, regardless whther it was factory fit or not, it' not part of the MOT test and a tester will not include the reverse lamp when checking the lights.

......yes....reversed mine into a skip once.....and smashed the reversing light into a million bits..... ho hum!! A

Regarding the led light - remember that leds only work one way so consider this when fault finding.
Regarding mot - if you leave child booster seats in the car which I've done a fair few times then they won't check the seatbelt operation but you get an advisory. My disco failed a retest because I left the rear seats folded up exposing a hole that couldn't be seen previously. As said - Reverse lights aren't part of the test, same as Front fogs. They're function is purely to aid the driver in manoeuvring the vehicle, not to inform other people that you're going backwards.

Yes, that will work if the leakage current is significantly less than around 10mA. You could try measuring the amount of current that flowing in the "ghost" mode. (N.B. when using a multimeter on mA it's easy to blow it up, so careful not to put it across the 12V and ground setting it back on a V range or you can probably buy a new meter.)
