Genuine 300tdi in a 1991. How?

300 alright, must be an engine conversion, not unusual, but not original!

Think I'll keep waiting and find one that has from factory 200 or 300. And a half chassis would be nice

Ps I appreciate your guys help on this , I am a nightmare for jumping in feet first

If the current owner told you that then he clearly has no knowledge of the vehicle or is trying to pull the wool over your eyes.

Don't know about the nuts & bolts of fitting the engine but the ancillaries are a mixture of original (header tank, fuel-filter etc) and the donor vehicle (airbox etc) all linked up with any pipe that did the job and some distinctly dodgy looking wiring. Cover the lot with a generous layer of engine oil and it doesn't look very nice.
Maybe underneath it is a good set-up that just needs tidying up but if you aren't sure then walk away, the trouble with any non-standard conversion is that when the time comes to buy parts you have to do your homework to ensure you are getting the correct part.

Yeah the other conversion nearly caught fire due to suspect wiring. Was a nightmare, I had to make the exhaust to as 200 didn't fit, n.a. didn't fit and 300 didn't fit.
I'll stick with my jimny until the right one comes

Dunno why yuk! Compared to a lot of monstrosities this one is pretty tasteful, not overly blinged and no lift jobs and stupid tyres.

unless the 300 fan is sat right up to the rad youll be struggling with non std exhaust hoses and pipes etc

It's the engine conversion that is yuk!
Dubious quality of installation and all coated in a nice layer of engine oil.

The trouble with conversions is at the end of the day they are a compromise. I thought the oil was a design feature

Some would say they could be an improvement....mine came with a 2.5 TD, now has a 300tdi . Is that a compromise?

I really meant that fitting an engine into a space that wasn't meant for it will lead to some spurious fittings. Air Box, Exhaust, QED.

Most conversions are perfectly fine and are an improvement on the original (depending on your perspective), there are always a couple of snagging issues like the exhaust and air filter box, but if done correctly they will be no bother.
The oil might be something as simple as a rocker-cover gasket.

In that case it can’t be a 1991 Defender. As they had the 200Tdi. Even if a 300 was fitted later on. The 300 just didn’t exist in 91.

Did a lot of military vehicles, have engines changed when they came out of service or during their service?
And they just changed for Available at the time,(cost no issue) in which case it should have some history to prove that.

whilst owned by the mod it would have had a 2.5na replacement if needed, supplied by abro either a civilian refurbished engine or in house, i used to work at a firm that did rebuilds for abro

army base repair organisation, land rover didnt support the mod which is were britpart started as they were set up to supply mod with all the spare parts

Ok.
But in that case why has britpart got such a bad name?
I was also under the impression that LR would still support the MOD defenders for a number of years to come.
Guess I got that wrong too.

I have a 1991 defender that wasn’t 200tdi originally.

When was the 300tdi? 94?
