I was also under the impression that LR would still support the MOD defenders for a number of years to come.

i was talking about 80s and 90s,they may have later
a few years back maybe 10 or so, britpart started caved in to the pleas of the big parts retailers to have cheaper prices to compete on ebay etc,prior to that all retailers paid the same even me with a very small account for parts, now the more you buy the cheaper the parts cost, that inevitably drove britpart to seek ever cheaper parts, whereas before the part was to a quality and cost whatever it did,in the main britpart supplied the mod with genuine parts sourced from lr or its suppliers
in the mid 90s i had to go over to northern ireland to draw up a build list of the snatch land rover front salisbury axle so the mod could have more built which we did to supply their spares side(abro) also with the gearbox which were lt85s at the time

I know during stint in raf supply most engines would be classed repairable on site, return to contractor, scrapped. As supplies were abundant there wasn't much need to rob part from one engine for another. Aircraft on the other hand was rife for donated parts being a need to get them flying.
