Hi all,

I have just bought an immaculate 2005 Vogue td6 and looking for a good garage/mechanics in the Glasgow area. I don't want to take it to LR dealers. Can anyone recomend any good one's, many thanks.

I use Gemm 4x4 in Larbert, Falkirk. Not quite Glasgow but its not far. They deal purely with land rovers, the guys are very good and George the owner is very knowledgeable and has been involved with landys for years. There's a scrappy on site too with some good finds on occasion

Thanks Wolf. Yes I know the garage, I used to have a Classic and took it there to get the front drive shaft sorted. Do they work on newer models? I wasn't sure if it was older type land Rovers they worked on?

Hi, why do I need to know them, something I should know. I have no issues with the gearbox.......
My car has done 102K with full service and pulls like a train and goes up and down gears smooth with no issues. Please, tell me more.:)

Do a search. Typical life of the GM box is 80K miles:eek:

You didn't research prier to purchase then ? Lol

Gearboxes fail at around 90k+ miles :D

Hi Thor, I am not very mechanicaly minded but is that what it is. Any idea how much that costs? ta

Do not Megaflush....this thing pulls all the atf out and replaces with new....this can be a disaster for the box....new ATF is a good detergent and a complete drain and refill can cause all the harmless clogged dirt to become loose and trash the box....

A filter change and sump drain will suffice, then drain and refill again a short while after to try and dilute the old oil....

Nearly home time from work here so can't go to deep with what is the main problem with the GM box...but a good search on here will bring up the main issues with it!

Yes Mackies will keep you right for the autobox. The main dealer in Glasgow sub contracts all the broken gearboxes to them. Strathearn Engineering ( less than an hour away ) will look after the rest.

Hi, sorry for delay coming back, been away working with no Internet access. Spoke to a chap from Mackies, very helpful. Will get the gearbox done in the next few weeks.
Another quick question, does anyone know if you can get additional soundproofing ? I used to have a RRS SC and I am still getting used to change of engine noise, cheers.

Good pointer with the td6 engine noise.....

Either get used to it or turn up the radio ! :D

The td6 is a loud lump lol

Well I'm going to live up to the writing under my name and say " I like the sound of the engine" Then again I've slept in noisier landys

I would also say it ain't a bad sound

Especially when you boot it with your window open lol
It nearly drowns out the radio haha
