can any one tell me what primer or sealer i use for tsz(thermal sprayed zinc) i aint having no luck on my search engine

Normal etch primer.
It isn't galv., If I understand correctly.
I've painted loads of hot zinc sprayed stuff.

Had a look a Paul's lovely new shiny galv chassis yesterday :D and also some hot zinc sprayed radius arms and they look very nice, a rough matt grey.
I'd be tempted to leave them but they will need painting. Apparently the arms were done a year ago and left in the garage and there's not a spec of rust on them.
Quite amazing to see a Landy completely in bits...chassis, bulkhead, axles, running gear, engine, box, roof/sides......just like a big Meccano set waiting to be put together again :) Paul is stripping everything right back, a mammoth task in my eyes.
Hats off to those who can accomplish such feats; my skills are more cerebral that mechanical but I'm learning slowly  wish I could weld!

Yes, it's porous and will go rusty stainy if not top coated.
My post above stands then- etch primer and top coat.
I may have some pics of my hot zinc coated bits somewhere, back in abit ...

I had mine hot zinc sprayed.
In fact, apart from the chassis and bulkhead more or less everything else was hot zinc sprayed.
so youve just used etch primer? has it lasted no flaking ect. i did wonder if etch primer would be ok,thanks flossy

Hi Paulski, i noticed on another thread that you had ordered the chassis from shielder and I was just wondering how it went, delivery quality shape size coating threads etc

For galvanised stuff I used two companies, one in Nottingham who charged about £170 for a car load of stuff, all receipted and guaranteed, VAT etc - all above board proper job through the front door. Took three weeks.

I then used a firm in stoke on Trent who charged 30 or 40£ cash for half the amount of stuff, can't quite remember, no receipt, dropped off on a pallet, they label it, done two or three days later, picked up on way past.
Stoke place quality was lots better than Notts place. Just getting a pile of stuff together again to go back to stoke. Even if price was the same I'd sooner take it to stoke.

As for painting galv - white vinegar from supermarket, red scotchbrite, damn good scrub, file the sharps off, keep vinegar on it and scrub more if you want over those few days, rinse, dry, 2k primer. Sorted.

hi leepea yeah got the chassis delivered november had to wait 2 or 3 months for it but didnt mind as i was still stripping down.the quality prob aint as good as the other 2 makes but the price was a no brainer so i am well plz with it.iv managed to de grease it this week and t wash it and am just waiten for my etch primer to be delivered so hopefully can start spraying at the week end

That's good to know, I guess as long as the body fits and it's solid/safe then I'd be happy - its not like I'm going to lie underneath admiring it. I'm also in the process of stripping down and hopefully I'll get the tub off by next week before I make my final decision on whether I will repair or replace. I'm in no rush it's a long-term project but by the time I spend £500 on rear 1/4 chassis, some outriggers and a suspension support or 2 plus the unholy amount of time to weld & prep and have it galvanised and painted only for it to rust from the inside somewhere I've missed....... I'm just going to have to start saving and 1800 bucks seems far more reachable than 2600. It's a shame I live so far away or I'd like to call in and take a look.

Why vinegar? I seem to remember from school chemistry lessons that zinc reacts with vinegar to produce hydrogen.

Said this before, I used brick cleaner, did a wonderful job for less than a fiver and the paint is still on my new galv chassis three years later

In what way would you say the quality differs from the other well know manufacturers?
theres a lot of zinc build up in places that should be flat but i can live with it.they only charge £100 delivery to think richard chassis want £260
