Fuel Problem I Think

Are you totally sure that the lever on the lift pump sits correctly on the cam........you might need the spacer in the kit.
 
Dont really understand about Right side of Cam, wouldnt know what I was looking for.

It's supposedly possible, to mount the LP so that the operating arm/lever sits inside the cam lobe - I.E. the wrong side of the camshaft .... IOW - the cam then turns merrily, and doesn't touch the LP arm/lever - hence LP doesn't pump ...

In the hopes of explaining this a bit better, I have "drawn" the pic below:-

Bear in mind it was a 30 second effort !!
 
And, @border - that "T" reg D1 you have bought appears to be a special edition, and an auto too - which means it'll be EDC - thus if you break it, certain of the fuel system parts have some value - or perhaps better - restore it, if it is a Cairgorm or Landmark etc .... ( more work I know :rolleyes: )

I might be interested in some bits if you do break it ;)

I thought he would remove the engine & put it in a LR:oops:
 
So if I try and wangle it in up and over on an angle type way, . This is going to be fun, think I'll nip along the Burger Van before I try for a bacon sandwich and cuppa to syke myself up:cool:

Yep, get me a bacon butty while you're there ;)....

The air cleaner being mounted to the cyl head bolts I understand ..... but having the bracket such that it isn't detachable from them without taking the head orft, is the daftest design ever :mad:....

You should be able to feel the cam lobe with your finger ( careful now o_O ) .... and the LP might not fit flush until the bolts are tightened because of the position of the lobe...
 
Get the original lift pump you took off the engine in the first place and put it lever to lever with the new ones you got and see if the levers are the same length

I remember the guy telling me about this a while back, he had just had the head skimmed with new bolts ect, I don't know what's involved in that job but it's all been done, just over 80000 miles. Hes done most of the welding, just needs rear boot floor and couple ok other little bits, think he was skint so we were lucky to get it really. You wouldn't believe it the main reason my son bought it for, but I'm glad he got this one

Right might have a little bit of progress. Fitted LP back on, couldn't feel anything on primer at first but hand turned crank till I could,. Then attached pipe to cup of fuel and was able to prime it through pump so think I'll get it all Back together and TRY AGAIN

Have not put it back together yet, just the tank in and out to filter. . Now technically should I be able to hand prime fuel from Tank ?? as I've been on ages and nothing yet, it is pumping in and pushing air out. Is anyone still with me. :)
