At this moment in time I have abit of Money to spend on my landrover and was thinking locking diff.

If you could only have 1 would you put it in the front or back? And why?

I've chosen a diff as my 90 is used off road, it has a winch and bumper, snorkel, extended breathers, lifted with dampers dislocation cones extender break lines polly bushed, light bar, cb

And thought a diff would make it better for what I do with it, which is off road,

Thoughts?

Rear because of the above reasons, secondly unless you have ashcroft cvs its not going to be very reliable

So of I put a diff in my ( what I believe to be standrd) diff I will brake something? The weakest link in the drive train been the cv? How much are they to replace?

What's the point not upgrading cv's/half shaft's when you break em more or less every time :confused::confused:

Have you put any reasearch into this at all??

I would add strengthened half shafts if you are putting a locker in. I have to admit, I didn't know that lockers broke CV joints.

I looked into this and I came to about £800 in parts for locker kit before I fitted it or someone else fitted it :(

personally unless your competing i woulnt fit hardened half shafts, in the 2 years i have had a rear locker i have broke 1 shaft, that cost £20 to replace, where hardened cost in excess of £300 and i doubt they will outlast 15 standard ones, i just carry a set of spare shafts as there changed easily

^^^ what she says^^^ :D

I havent driven mine yet with lockers but its fairly standard advice from what ive read/seen/been told.

It easier to replace a half shaft especially if you only have a rear locker.

As has been said no real need to upgrade shafts or cv's i have front and rear arb's in my 90 for 18 months now and yet to break a shaft and they have taken some abuse, carry a full set of spare shafts and cv's as standard ones are so cheap, oh and if your only geting 1 diff put it in the rear

Changed easily unless the splines are twisted then it can be a bit of a bugger but yeah i go along with everyone else, waste of wonga an all that:D

mine snapped in a straight line approx 10mm from end, you would think it was machine cut, i just pulled out broken shaft and used an extending magnet to get the bit out, easy

I must admit that most times when the splines were twisted was down to eeediot squaddies leaving the feckers in 4x4 on tarmac :rolleyes:

Put it in rear as in front whenits engaged you can only go in a straight line , and when in rear thats where the load generally transfers to when climbing . Driving considerately standard shafts are OK its when you are not that the HD stuff earns its cost . JMHE
