Hi All and a happy new year to you all.
We are looking at buying a Freelander TD4 Automatic, but have never had an automatic 4wd before. I test drove the new disco automatic and was very impressed but its a totally different animal at near 50K.
We own a farm so it will be put to light work around and I tow about 3/4 ton maybe twice a week but spend most of the time on tarmac.

So my main question is what are they like off road (in a field mainly)

They is fantastic. . . .but if yer talkin really muddy might need better tyres. . . .my auto is used orft road and its the dogs . . . .

Thanks for the reply,
The standard tyres are naff, i used Scorpian STR on my Kia and they went well.

The defender is the abserlute best orft roader goin [gonna git slated now] un as you live on a farm ,then if you wanna put yer pig in the back then a fender is your motor. . . .

problem is Ming we dont have pigs we have sheep, a dog, Horses (which wont fit) and a new baby 2 weeks old hence the change in car.
The off roading is mainly grass harrowing, towing a sprayer, checking fences (cos i am idle) .Its more pleasent in a landy than a tractor.

if you're going to tow a lot then its worth having the additional oil cooler fitted to the auto box as it runs a bit hot.
Had my Td4 Auto off road, no problems at all, done some light towing and didn't really notice anything was on the back
