Freelander 2 (LR2) Freelander 2 2007 won't start.

Have you put an OBD2 reader on it to see if any error codes come up?

The car doesn't really have an immobiliser in the traditional sense.
If the key dock, ABS module, ECM, and Ipack don't recognise the key, the ECM doesn't allow the engine to start.

Does the engine crank over, or just do nothing when the start button is pressed?

So the key is accepted, all the central locking etc works.
I have ignition, press the button and a click, I'm thinking maybe starter motor so have removed that and will replace, I shorted the starter and nothing.
I have a basic obd reader with no errors.

If the starter is clicking, then the ECM is probably sending the start signal to the start relay. It's not uncommon for the starter solenoid contactors to burn out, there's even a solenoid repair kit available to solve that issue for about £20.

You've done a battery reset, next step could be hard reset, disconnect both battery leads and touch them against each other.
