Hi, looking for a rear axle to fit onto a defender puma 110. Think all coil spring axles are interchangeable?? Based in Scotland.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Slightly bent axle

Was minding my own business till a f**kin camper van came round the corner on the wrong side of the road… just clipped my rear tyre plus tailgate. Have taken a few diagonal measurements of the chassis seems to be to the mm up to the spring mount. (Land Rover tolerances 9.55mm) Although chassis could still be twisted?? Going to install a new axle plus spare arm n bushes take it to the alignment shop see what there machines says. Will then probably attempt to install a new 1/4 chassis if all is good. That’s my thinking anyway? Unless anyone else has a better idea? Seems the radius mounts and the axles took most the force. I reckon the front of the camper had crumpled the wheel was completely off…the police man let me drive it home 3 miles tokyo drift style 😅 Defender 1 / Camper 0

Unfortunately not :/ Police had to come as they claimed I was on the wrong side of the road. Can’t describe in words how felt when they started blaming me😂 Wouldn’t even make sense from the damage, thankfully can clearly see my tyre marks on the wet road coming round the corner practically on the verge couldn’t of given more space…absolute d**kheads! Police we’re incredibly helpful, but told me that it’s up to the insurances to sort it out…and will likely be a 50/50 fault as no dashcam or witnesses… Moral of the story is buy a dashcam!!! Invaluable piece of kit to have when incompetent/dishonest people drive these roads.

Just say the camper van was looking at the views… they are either going slow or wandering on the road.

As for your motor..

Have you seen the price of rear Hicaps. Probally cheaper to put a flat piece of wood & some wheel arches for a few months.

Another point… You may struggle to get a 110 disk Salisbury axle. It may be easier to get a stripped down 1 & rebuild it with your stuff.
( if you desperate to get back on the road get a disco axle to use complete as this will fit & replace once you have a 110 type)

Unfortunately have glimpsed the prices 🙃 Would put it back on dented n scraped but the light column has snapped off… could fix the rivets but appears to attach structurally on the button :/ If anyone has any ideas on that?

Flatbed probably a good shout! Can get more logs on the back!!! Just like the look of the hicap tubs ☹️

As for Salisbury axle’s require a shortened prop to work with 6speed puma, which I don’t have time or money to get one properly made/balanced atm :(

Have access to a 300tdi rear axle 24spline apart from smaller spring seats, looks identical to current ones? Reckon these have the same load rating?

They are actually coming off an older Defender 90 which I used to own…has a gross weight of 3,500kg which is more than my current 3,050kg hicap 🤷‍♂️

Ok to use the 110 axle as would have same load ratings.they just make a few changes to springs.

Post some photos of the corner damage & will look at mine the weekend when I’m home ..
Nothing stopping you putting a trailer board onto the tail gate… dam you need the corner to hold the tailgate closed…
Back to a flat bed….

Well the new crusty 300tdi Def 90 axle is a straight swap onto the puma should keep me going for a little bit.

Need to figure out the rear tub situation…as my wooden plank might not be seen as great in the eyes of the law 😅

My hicap tub light piller has snapped in three different locations possibly beyond repair? :(

All wheel steer…nice 😂
And just by chance I'm going to be selling a 110 front axle converted to rear wheel steer. New brackets etc, diff flipped. End plates rotated for caster. All new bearings, seals, diff rebuilt, callipers. Blasted and sprayed with a full zinc/tar/topcoat system. Mentioned in case you have any mates with more money than sense....
