Being a tight ass as I am , I went for the cheaper option of having a volt meter in the 90 .
Not content with having a standard meter and second guessing its slow readings , I went for the digital approch due to being able to read it at a glance and being more accurate .
So a quick search on fleabay I came accross a plug in the fag lighter voltmeter for a lot less then the 52mm ones
. Having not fitted my consol yet ( pre fitting radio + switches etc ) I got looking as to where I could fit this thing I bought , the unit itself looked crap just sat on its own anywhere on the dash .
Being me I took it appart
, so below are some pics of what it sarted out like and what looked like after i attacked it with the dremmel
.
Main body taken off , yep we can work with that
Only prob now is the face is gray and the LEDs are too bright . After thinking about filtering the face with smoked plastic ( was too dark in the end ) I went for window tinting film
.
Next was to cut out the hole for the LED screen .
Some trimming to get a snug fit
dry run fitting , bearing in mind that this circuit board had 2 smaller LEDs above the main readout . I didnt want them so I cut them off
+ they where higher then the main screen anyway . Also had to gently bend down some of the diodes etc to get them out the way .
Turned over and this is what it looks like off
Powerd up
All thats left to do is plumb up the wires to ignition live and it finnished
, there you go a cheaper way of having a digi volt meter
.
