There is an event tyres van that passes our garage most days, so they do exist!!

Kumho are the better known brand but the GT are a top tyre too. Group Tyre are a massive firm, I had the enduro AT once and it was tidy, the MT looks good too, and the plus with the GT is that they are not directional (directional tyres have the minor problem of only being 50/50 chance of being correct direction spare if you get a puncture)

Well... i had to research it anyway, and throwing the spreadsheet together took all of about 10 minutes!

BTW...what size are the tyres on the alloys you have...i may be interested...

Currently, I have 245/75R16 Hankook Dynamic MT RT01 tyres on the Freestyle alloys. Front tyres have about 5-6mm tread, and rear tyres have 2-3mm (as a rough estimate).

Wanna make me an offer? Send me a PM and we can exchange phone numbers if you're genuinely interested. Bear in mind though, that you would be buying 5 alloys, 4 of which have tyres on... cos i need to keep the spare to save buying another one!

I always carry a spare, and the spare is fine, so directional doesn't really matter to me. If Kumho are good and GT are good too, I guess i should just go for whichever one I like the look of more, unless anyone else has differing opinions or thinks I should go for one of the other options in my spreadsheet!

BF Goodrich are just too expensive, so SOLUTIONS 3 and 6 are out.

Kumho are nice, but GT Adventuro are cheaper, so SOLUTION 2 is definitely out.

It's now a choice between these three solutions:

SOLUTION 1 - NEW WHEELS & GT ADVENTURO TYRES - £462.52
SOLUTION 4 - OLD WHEELS & GT ADVENTURO TYRES - £378.52
SOLUTION 5 - OLD WHEELS & KUMHO KL71 TYRES - £463.24

SOLUTION 1 assumes I can sell 5 Freestyle alloys, 4 of which have 245/75R16 Hankook Dynamic MT RT01 tyres on them, two with 3mm tread and two with 6mm tread for £100, so I've factored this into the total cost.

I have very little money, so SOLUTION 4 seems the obvious one, but I hate the Freestyle alloys so £84 extra to switch to black steel modulars (assuming I sell the old alloys & tyres for £100) seems reasonable.

Opinions welcome...

Also, one question - can I use the same wheel nuts or will I need new ones if I switch from Freestyle alloys to black 16x7 steel modulars?? And will the silver/grey sheel nuts with those weird plastic caps on them look ridiculous on a set of black steels??

When I buy tyres, normally I just go into the tyre place round the corner that a mates mate runs and say "bang 4 tyres on these rims, they need to be BFG 265/75/R16" or "I need a new wheel on my wheelbarrow, here is my wheel barrow" and if he doesn't have them in stock then they get ordered in an put on same day or next day

Why does it need to be a drawn out process??

i'd love to do it that way... just phone someone up and say "4 new tyres, please", but i'm not rich enough to be able to just say that and then find out a week later I could have saved £50 or even more. I want the best that's out there, but I have no money, so I have to find the balance.

not easy... and I don't really have the time to do all this either, hence why i'm still up on the laptop at 1am! i wish I could just go and buy 4 new tyres without putting any thought to it... i really do. just too broke though!

Tyres for me at least are a necessary evil, not something I'm going to waste much life on searching for. The service from event was excellent, they were called beck twice, once for a balancing weight that flew off while driving and once for a bad seal on a rim giving a slow leak, customer service is top notch.

Not really, the weights are crap from any fitters, it's the first one I've lost in many years, the bead leak was caused by a patch of corrosion on the rim.

These guys work fast, four tyres fitted and balanced in under an hour is going it some and that was including chatting to me. The end result was a satisfied customer, it could have gone sour but the customer service was excellent so I'm happy.

As it happens though, I've found a place that will fit 245/75R16 GT Adventuro Mud terrain tyres for £84.60 each inc. VAT! That's the cheapest yet!

i will... as soon as i have the money... or if storm99 really is interested in my old alloys with tyres on... if he's interested, I can ask how much tread he needs on them and that might decide how long I keep 'em for!

If he needs hardly any tread, i'll keep them a bit longer. if he need more tread, i'll get it all sorted now (despite the lack of cash).

Is there anything else I'm going to need to buy (other than wheels and tyres) considering i'm switching a 300Tdi disco from Freestyle alloys to 16x7 modulars?

Spacers? Wheel nuts? Anything else? Or are they just a straight swap?

And what about the spare wheel carrier on the back door? Will that cope with a 16x7 modular?
