First Time Starting

The trouble with a bulb (or any other light-up circuit tester) is it doesn't tell you how much juice can get through. I prefer a meter because I've had a few instances where mart of the circuit (usually a fuse) has developed a high resistance so you're only getting a few volts at the accessory in question. So a meter can tell you more.

think it's

Right wired it like this as above, and the key turns as it should now, but it's only cranking on the last turn, not starting. The oil and battery light do not come on at all now. The only live I can get with tester is number 5. Now if I touch number 5 to the number 2 terminal it cranks without key in. Gonna have a cuppa and try and think about it.

take it the conversion was from arrowed

OMG. I just can't get my head round diagrams like that, I just followed your pic .

Think I've got it James, it fires up first time now, on the last turn of the key, first turn lights up battery and oil, Sounds a lot better now, will put Vid on tonight.

Tried with battery disconnected. The Turns are exactly the same as above, First turn in pic 2 puts lights on, next turn fires up on spring, then key knocks back slightly from spring. Mind you there is a bit of a stop half way in first turn if you get what I mean but there is no mark on the barrel where it pauses. Lights come on at position in pic 2. Sorry, hope you understand all that.

Still don't think its quite right yet , on my Disco it starts on third turn, not second like this. As you can see, first turn lights , second turn fires up. Do you think it sounds OK,

the glow plug light and battery light will go out with the engine running ,but you should get main beam warning /indicators etc which will confirm aux supply.
you should also have voltage at fuel shut of valve as James said check between connections

Right Really Sorry I know everyone kept telling me to check for lives between connections but didn't know how to do it, felt stupid asking again and again, Anyway found out how to do it, I Think.
So wired as above on Mystery's pic. Number 5 has live all the time even with key out. 1 3 and 5 have live on first turn. 2 and 4 only have live on third turn whilst against spring it fires up in a second and once key is released off spring 2 and 4 live go out. Just strange that key does not sit at number 3 position on pic below, it sits at 2 then seems to go straight to spring at 4.
Swapped the red and white to where it was the other day fired it up for couple of seconds and loud noise there again, which James identified as starter, Thank God he did coz I would have knackered this new one too .
Anyway Now the starter cant be spinning now as the live light from my tester thingy goes off when back off spring, well I Think that's the case.
Another Vid from tonight seems to sound ok now, or can anyone sense something else.

3 will be glow plug which you also have to hold key i that position before twisting further to start
It Just wont sit at number 3 it seems to go against spring as soon as its moved from number 2, tried swapping wires but no good.
Will It have to sit at 3 ? or will it be ok as is.
Also Does engine sound about right ?
