First time off roading

So I took the defender off roading for the first time last month. Spent two days driving around David Bowyer's site in Devon, even went round with yoda himself.

Just thought I'd mention he was in the process of digging out the site for the first time in 15yrs so it's all looking pretty gnarly.

Managed to snap off one of the rear trailing arms in a water feature. Predictably the RAC didn't believe this had happened whist driving to the shop so we had to attach it back on with cable ties and straps and drive 30miles to a garage to get a new bracket welded on.

Bloody good fun. Look forward to doing a bit more.

The 'fender wasn't all clarted up with muck and mud at the time was it?

Assuming, you'd washed most of that off, then you should have blamed it on a nearby pothole in the road, I'd be surprised if they are not like rats by now, you're never more than 30 feet away from one! RAC blames the councils and the govt. and it get's sorted

We did exactly that. Washed it down and got it onto the yard next to the shop and said it happened on the track down.

The RAC refused to even send a guy out to look at it, said that we were on a off road site and therefore not covered - which is true but I think it was poor show to just jump to conclusions, even if they are correct, and not send a guy out to assess the situation.

After id bin offroading n broke my 1st disco we got towed bout a mile away rung rac van came then got me a low loader.no questions asked.dint even get his hands dirty just asked if id had a good day out

Thats really bad. Even if they are right.

Shouldn't they come out anyway if you are stuck, Green Flag have never questioned me, even when my old Disco broke and that was towing a trailer in a field.

I can see that if it happens a lot you might end up getting a bill

Once pretended to the RAC that the front swivel ball had 'just snapped off' a few miles away from parkwood where i had been off roading all day

we even dragged the car along the road a bit to make some witness marks

We were going to drive it up the road and phone green flag (cover my mate had) but the attachment seem fine so we just kept going

The RAC got quite aggressive. Said if they sent anyone out, even to assess the car, we would have to foot the bill. I know we were outside of the policy but I wasn't very impressed with how they delt with it.

Aa have picked me and my disco up from outside parkwood many times. Only request the wagon driver had was that I cleaned as much mud off the chassis and myself before he picked me up. Bloke who picked us up last time was a regular to parkwood knew what wed been upto and didn't hesitate to help us.
