Lol...mine was a mk2 Escort..cost me £50 and i abandoned it one day 25 years ago in Smethwick....probably still there.

Thanks for all the advice, i think i will shop around the specialist insurers and then look for a defender based on what they say will be the cheapest one to insure.

I am 18 and I have a 1987 defender 110 with the 2.5td engine. I was in the same position as you less than 1 month ago! I am now insured with Aviva at the cost of £460 fully comp. I would reccomend that you buy your land rover and have it registered in your dad/mums name. Mine is owned in my dads name and i could not believe the quote! I am a named driver on his policy, his insurance costs about £90 a year and mine is £460 as i said previously. I have no idea why they are so cheap but check them out!
