have a look what there putting through

only thing with brightwells they wont let you drive them, let you start it etc and look around it. but you are taking a chance not driving anything you wish to buy

Shame. must be another insurance company that specialises in younger drivers??
 
you could always try the compare sites, but phone up to check-had couple of learner drivers in past year and we got some cracking quotes.
we phone a couple and they started changing excesses
 
Im looking for the same advice :D, not my first car but will be my first defender. Luckily ive waited 3 years before deciding on getting one. Been quoted £412.50PA for a 3.5 V8 90 by the AA,(Which is still kind of unreasonable to me since your lucky to get 80mph out of one) Sorry to hi-jack your thread ollie but does anyone know roughly what a nicely modded V8 90 would set me back? Around £5000 is probably pushing it budget wise for me. First post by the way :) ~Pez
 
V8's really really bad on fuel then? I expected it to drink fuel but whats realistic figures in relation to your Mpg? i get around 24mpg in my little 1.8 focus zetec i have now.
 
..... I wanted to roar with power :( Looks like im with the tractor crew now then because i drive 15 miles a day to work, and for some reason the insurance is double on a Tdi.. probably because they feel sorry for the V8 owners petrol costs :mad:.

Try Footman James for Insurance. Boydy1989 on here has a 110SW @ 17 and it was £750, think he paid the same for his 90 with a 200 in it ;) Ask him

Bloke on LRUK Soft top Petrol Series 3 - £750.

If you ring around (Don't bother with online quotes they are a waste of time!) you will eventually find a cheap quote with a bit of luck :) Footman James, NFU (Try a couple of local offices), Adrain Flux, Peter Best, Tesco, Ect ect

Sometimes i think it depends if the bloke in charge of the department got a shag that morning or is in a bad mood :rolleyes:
 
brightwells, its only down the road from you in leominster. there are often some decent landys for good prices there - if you know what to look out for
 
I think my insurance was £750 on my 19J 110 when i was 17. Cheapest to insure i found was the V8 belive it or not, (saving on the insurance could pay the fuel easy, plus V8 110s are dirt cheap). Admiral/Elephant seem to always be cheapest for me, but you could bet your farm they would never pay up.
 
Hi mate welcome to the forum.
I'm 19 at the moment, got an f-reg 90 with a Disco 300tdi in and a series 3 petrol and have always been insured with the NFU.
When I was 17 my series 3 cost £290 a year but that was in my dad's name with me as a main driver.
My defender is insured 3rd party in my own name and when i was 18 it cost me around a grand. Havn't got any complaints about them at all, they may be marginally more expensive than other companies but having had a dubious accident before, they didn't hesitate paying out. Also It's insured as having a soft top, 33' tyres and lots of other mods for no extra cost. They even said I could fit a roll cage and 2 inch lift for no increase as long as I don't increase the value of the vehicle.
Having said that I did try and get a quote for a 96 Disco ES the other day and they wanted 2 grand 3rd party when i valued it at £1500!! (really should have got a quote before i bought it)
Do try and shop around but you can haggle with the NFU quote well too :)

£4500 budget for a first car, christ how times have changed!

My first motor was a Mini City MOT failure. It cost about £200 plus another £100 to get it through the MOT!
