Evening,

as title really... got a few bits i need doing to my L322 at the moment like programming a new BCU, changing some settings in the LCM (light check module) to accompany my rear LED light upgrades etc... program a fuel burning heater remote...

so i have always liked the idea of the faultmate MSV2's, just for the fact i can change nearly every setting i want within the cars ECU's !

been put off by the high price really, but been thinking.. by the time i have kept going back to LR or a local specialist i might as well do it myself. :D

so just a quick bit of advice really, from anyone who currently uses one, do they come recommended ?

should i buy directly from BBS ? or are there other re sellers around selling them cheaper ?

im only interested in the single VIN license for now, but i have one question.. If i was to upgrade my L322 to say a 2006+ (facelift) model in a couple of years time would i just be able to update my VIN license and pay the difference ??

or do you need to buy a complete new £500 license :eek::eek:

Thanks for your help :p

The MSV is a whole heap of cash dude - that is some serious wedge...

Most get direct from BBS - but there was/is a UK stockist atleast there was when I was looking for the Nanocom for the P38, before my L322 came along....

They are good, mine does everything I want it to, and I'm sure a hell of a lot more. I've got the extreme which is nice to not need a laptop for basics though. Not brilliant for calibrating EAS though - just not obvious how to.

The software is OK, but there is not a great deal of help how to use it, in fact when I posted a question about how to use the software to calibrate EAS, even the guys from BBS weren't sure.

And not cheap, I think mine ended up around £650 by the time I'd paid postage, paypal OR credit charge fees etc. bought direct from BBS though.

The cost I paid was for both hardware and licence, but you can have up to three vehicles licenced on the hardware, or get an unrestricted at big big big £££s :) Just a software licence if you've already got the hardware is cheaper, I think it was around £250 when I was looking for my brother's disco2. They will also do MG, rover and morgans if you've got any sitting around!

All that said, its paid for itself already in trips to the dealers, not to mention convenience, but I've not tried the hawkeyes etc. for comparison. I did have a testbook on her a while back, but it couldn't connect to anything, whereas faultmate didn't have a problem.

thanks for your replys guys.

I know its a large wedge of cash but i think its worth it.

its looking at around £800 EX VAT at the moment for a MSV2 extreme for an L322.

the L322 is the most expensive ! thats funny ah !

a freelander is only £350 lol

i currently have an all comms which is great for calibrating EAS and resetting faults but i want the programming functionality like being able to change settings and enable factory extra's.

so it looks like its the way to go.

if i think about it, its not a lot of dosh really considering iv spent out £2400 recently on my facelift / rear bumper facelift upgrades.

spending that sort of dollar needs the right equipment to fix it when it breaks ! lol

has anyone on here used one with an L322 ?

Thanks

Having just spoken to storey wilson recently after purchasing my All Comms based on peoples opinions on here, He tells me that he is to get "Back on it" regarding the software and plans lots more future upgrades in the coming year. He was particularly talking about the programming side of things, as he said that what people want so thats what will sell??? I know its not capable of certain things but he says there a re still a alot of possibilities for his system that have not yet been exploited.

I can imagine it could get just as good as the MSV just without the greedy price tag ! Lol

But sadly I can't wait

The all coms is still wicked for calibrating the EAS

Storeys done a great job with the kit !

I purchased a SV extreme for my P38 2.5 DT to see how the system worked in the begining, I then contacted BBS and asked for a quote to upgrade to the complete MV P38 Software Package all I was asked to pay was the difference between the software licences.

Why not contact Ronnie at BBS and ask the cost of adding a SV licence or even a MV licence, expensive I know but could be worth the outlay...

Hippo, buy direct from BBS. You can always add another vehicle to the single vehicle MSV max is three, you may also be able to upgrade, ask Ronnie. The L322 is expensive due to the development costs of interfacing with the CANBUS system and the added complexity of the L322, lots more stuff to go wrong. I don't think £800 is a lot of cash for what it does, I paid close to that for my P38 multi vehicle kit just covering diesels and it is a brilliant piece of kit.:D

I bought a Faultmate with a single vehicle licence for my p38. It works well I must say.
I later bought another Faultmate secondhand with some additional modules on it that I didn't have. I wanted to transfer the modules over then sell on the second one.
Blackbox refused to issue codes to me to transfer the modules over. Despite what they say I find them very inflexible with their systems.

Storey Wilsons Allcoms software for the L322 is well developed now and is not locked to one VIN. The fault reading and clearing looks complete with only a few of the change setting functions left to complete. It is a lot cheaper.

Just reread your post.
If you want to alter the settings in the BCU then AllComs will not currently do it. Storey has yet to complete this. Likewise the lighting module and there is also no mention at all of a fuel burning heater.

yep, sadly the all comms is not sophisticated enough for what i need done.

hence having to turn to the Fault Mate.

so a question to those that have bought these... So buying direct from Blackbox means the item will be sent from Cyprus... any idea if there's any duty Tax on import ?

I have read online that electronics like Laptops etc.. don't have any import duty ?

Thanks

I too bought the MSV2 Extreme direct from BB. I did a bank transfer to avoid the credit card charges.
Mine is a single VIN license with all the modules for the P38 Thor. Expensive yes, but probably the best available right now.
I also bought a PSU to allow me to power up the MSV2 without connecting it to the car (to input license keys and use in demo mode) and a ODBII extension lead as the standard one is a little short.

Carl.....

well all ordered !!! :eek::eek::eek::eek:

need to work hard for the next few weeks to pay for it now :p

with credit card surcharges and expensive postage its set me back just over £1K !

im sure it will be worth it :D
