Hi to all, vehicle as in the title, decided to take out the old MFD & radio CD unit and replace with an Android head unit. Did some research to get over the can bus DSP problem and bought a Resler I-Bus module which plugged into a usb port on the head unit and works (in basic mode) perfectly.
To enable all of the features (including the DSP) you need a license which I have purchased and connect the app to the car WiFi and press the ‘unlock’ tab……except it doesn’t unlock! Apparently the app checks the VIN (I assume from the engine ECU) and if they match it unlocks, but mine will not. The app is saying that it cannot obtain the VIN number. The Resler is obviously seeing the can bus as it reads engine RPM; mileage etc….but not the VIN.
To complicate the matter if I plug my Autel 808 into the car and ask it to read the VIN having selected Range Rover, it says it can’t…..but if I tell the Autel it’s an X5 (M53) it reads the VIN but then says it cannot decode the diagnostics! A new good battery is fitted and no issues with any fault codes etc.
Does any one have any ideas as to what’s going on here, Resler Technical Support haven’t an answer, I’ve had the ECU out, cleaned all the pins and it has the VIN number attached on a sticker so assuming it’s the original ECU and the wiring all seems as it should be….any pointers as to what’s up or how to sort this will be very much appreciated.
Thanks for reading.
