Took the rear wheel off today and there's a 4" hole in the exhaust! Thought I saw a puff of smoke from there the other day.

So, anyone got any recommendations for replacing the exhuast? I was thinking maybe s stainless one might last a little longer if I could get one at the right price.

Ideas welcome.

A stainless steel exhaust on a 95 will be worth more than the car. :D:D

You're probably right, especially with it being a DT.

However, it is what it is worth to me that is important. I am planning on keeping the car going as long as possible so hoping to get 10 years at least. In that time I'd probably go through 2 or even 3 cheapo steel ones. On the other hand, they're easy to get to so if they are massively more expensive then stuff it!

Guess I'll need the rubbers as well. Didn't notice any sealant when I last had it apart but I guess that might be an idea too?
 
Get Bosal exhaust and forget about it for a few years.
Bosal lasted less than 3 years on my Toyota, the stainless one has been on for 25 years and still like new.
Bosal are expensive in France, so stainless from the UK was not a lot more, and as I intend to keep the car until I can no longer drive, I figured it was a good investment. When the down pipe goes, I'll do that in stainless too.

Bosal was OEM for most Landrovers. But their standards seem to have dropped since they moved a lot of production out of the UK.

Saw an old schoolfriend recently. His company had switched to a chinese supplier but has switched back to the UK because they had so many batches out of tolerance. When they get a bad batch the whole production line grinds to halt until they find some that fit. He says the little extra they pay using UK firms massively dwarfs the downtime from cheap chinese parts.

Brother works for Bosal. They had a big factory near me that made most of the Land rover exhausts at one time, along with parts for other manufactures used as original equipment. All the machinery and tooling has been moved over to places like Poland and Romania and other parts of Europe. Hundreds were laid off, put on the dole. The factory has been sold to another company (possibly part of the group as a tax dodge) and Bosal now just rent part of it as a storage area for parts made abroad. He says the quality of the parts has gone through the floor.
 
Any idea what Rimmer Bros are selling? Comes in at £600. That's a lot considering I can get cats back for under £100 on standard parts. Would it last 6 times longer though?

I'll see how much Datatek paid for his Double 'S' Exhausts - Four Wheel Drive one and then have a think. I've got another large order for Island coming up. The money they've had off me. On the upside, I've almost got a new car in installments!

Think he only replaced the arse end. Down pipe and cat may need a mortgage. Rimmers are not known for competitive pricing.

Correct, only from cats back. That suits me, I don't want to touch those manifold bolts until I really have to!

Changing the front pipe on a diesel is a piece of pee.
 
I'm monitoring levels since last weekends major surgery. Looks like it's fixed! The coolant weep has stopped too. So that's 2 out of 2.

I need to get some Gunk or something on the bottom of the car to clean off all the old leaked oil. Then I'll know for sure if I've cured it.

The only thing left to replace is the rear crank oil seal mind, and I don't fancy DIYing that.
