Just sorned it now, Not sure just yet, no obvious problem with head gasket but the valve stem seals were a bit old and brittle so might have been the problem.

Injectors were not good and have been refurbed with new tips so will be as good as new.

Will all go back in this weekend and I will know if smoking is cured.

If not it will be broken for spares.

I brought the tools for fixing the flywheel at tdc and setting the fuel pump timing which I will check as well and if the smoke is gone I can change the belt and pully's.

Stu how you doing on the motor front, sorted your bearings out, are they that bad so you can't use the disco for work. I know you said they would'nt insure a modded disco, but don't you need to get back to work asap.
On a happier note whose up for some lanes, or whens next slroc drive day. Some one throw some dates into the hat. I can do any weekend after this one. Or maybe a few evening ones. If your still without wheels Stu you can come with me, and while your being bounced about you can sort out that pda and maps for me.

Stu your only 20mins from me so I can pick you if your still without a motor.
I'm free tomorrow night - short notice i know:doh:
Anyone about? Could just do a couple of lanes then have a drink / natter?

If not I think i can make the next SLROC driving day (20th March).

Hope to have the engine back together this weekend but it's run out of tax :(

Brian, I was reading your other posts about the head coming off.
Next time I'm working under the bonnet, wanna come round for a coffee.

Hope you get it sorted soon. Would seem a shame to break it, when the rest is all good! Worst case, what about a replacement engine from a donna truck?

Always happy to pop over when your working on your truck? Do you need a hand with anything?

If this engine is still smoking I don't think a replacement engine will be the answer.

I need to raise some money back as I have spent a fortune on it and an engine would cost at least £500 by the time it is in.

Dibs on the indicators!

Discodad, where abouts are you? I'm normally up for lending a hand/drinking tea.

On a side note I'm thinking about having a go at fitting my defender arches on saturday. Could be a laugh with the angle grinder and plasmer cutter.

Not yet, but its always nice to know someone who knows one end of an engine from the other! I've got a list of tasks that need doing and I'm going to make a start this weekend. Diff oils, hand brake adjustment and ensuring no air in my cooling system.

Cheers Chris, havent used a plasma cutter since college. would love to help / watch / have a go, but I've promised to be at home this weekend (few household repairs then hopefully some time under my Disco:D but most important I'll be around.

PS - I'm only in Mistley, so nice a local. Would be good to arrange a morning of fixing car's then and few local lanes / fords? Maybe a Saturday towards the end of the month?

Thanks everyone for your words on my problem, its much apprecated.

I am still waiting for the call for my Pug to go in and be assessed, aparantly it take 48 hrs for that to come thruogh, so should be today.

I should also get a car if they repair it, so will stil be able to get around, I can still use the disco for short trips but the bearings are getting worse, I got the bearing ect, just not got a 13mm Bi hex socket, I have ordered one, (Halfords/local motor factors did not have one), and cant get the bolt holding the Break pipe bracket lose, once I have the socket ill try to do them with out taking brackert off - (hope i can as Brian has said it can be done).

Once done I will sort out having the Landy insured for about £1400 per annum to get me by untill I got a samller motor to run about in.

Yeah thats no problem Geoff I'll sort your MM out, and show you functions I know, I take it you have it now, I'll but ALL the Maps on a disc for you.

Once back on the road, I am up for giving anyone a Hand.

Its a pain but these things happen, I would get a garage to do the bearrings to get me back to work now, but spent all my spare cash on me pug....... as it was going to cost me more to use the Landy.

Yeah I am at the moment insured with Frank Pickles as you say Drizz about £150 highly Mod'd + off road, but as soon as you meantion business the they will not insure, other companys will insure MOD'd (at a quite afew quid more) or Business but not both, only found two that will NFU and some obsure company and it works out @£1400, give or take a few quid.

It seems to be when you put business and mod'd together some one rubs their hands as always, add off road and WOW.... better not go there.

So after loads of calls another car was realy the only way. one smaller due to the amount of miles i do. ie fuel comsumption.

Ah yer Mistley's not far from me. Fix it day would be good, might be better to do it after the lanes lol.

Don't want a face full of mud:eek:
Mine is nice and clean underneath after last weekends trip to Debenham ford. Hence doing the diff oils this weekend:D
I might try and get the De-Cat pipe on as well:rolleyes:
