looks really good there Ian, you got it sitting well back, did you cut the grill.

Cheers mate there's about an inch between the winch and the rad, which was what me and matt thought would be best, had to trim a little off the bottom of the grill, but sits just right without affecting any Approach or departure angles still not sure if I should add an a frame as I still have my old one which I could chop and make fit but don't want to over do it as it looks quite good as it is.

A frame might spoil the effect of it, look just right as it is.

It looks cool as is, dont put the a-frame on, they look to blingy and slightly chavvy in my opinion, kinda 'all the gear no idea' look to them....

Have you got a second battery fitted? If not its a good idea, a winch draws lots of power and can flatten a battery quickly. Its easy to fit a second battery and a reliable split charge system costs about £30 for everything needed' you get the benifit of running radio/lights off it and not having to run your engine....

Cheers guys gonna give the a frame a miss;)

Jon not got a second batt yet but am going to, just trying to get me head around how to wire up a split charge, anyone got any good diagrams on how to wire up and what I need?

Graham I'm thinking about getting an air locker in the rear before I put a lift on or should I lift first decisions decisions;):D

I can get you all the bits to run a relay split charge, its a simple system and is easily repaired or bypassed if ever it goes wrong, it is so simple to wire up, you get a thick cable between both +ve terminals and put in a 110 amp relay, you then connect the other 2 terminals on the relay to an earth and an ignition live source, simple as that.

Ian I need to install a split system myself. Can do them at the same time if you want. Jon I'd be happy to get the bits from you.
Where did you install your second battery.

The bumper looks great. Very neat and tidy.

Looks nice and manly there Ian. How did you join the tubes on, can't see in the pics due to the contrast in the black.

Cheers matt instead of butting them on the end plates I slotted the tubes with an L shape and slid them with the help of lr tool no 1, over the front and side plates then seam welded them on at a slight angle, with the added bonus it adds strengh to the front plate and ties in the side plate, if ya get what I mean ;) will try and get some better pics close up tomorrow.

Sounds good to me, just trying to think now of where to put a second batt as the one under my passenger seat takes up the whole batt box nearly, one big bugger that was on the motor when I bought it so no room for another in there;), although there was and still is a big relay in the batt box and some seriously heavy gauge cable wired into the back with duralite connectors and batt connections that I stripped out as I wasn't sure what it all was, maybe I stripped out a split charge system when I got the 90 :scratching_chin: will have a butchers tomorrow.

My battery sits where the jack/chock usually sits, I removed the airbox as it use to come in where the battery sits (ABS spec) so I put an inline one in:

Ian, I would look at making a battery box in the rear up for your 2nd battery, are you at tyes green sunday?

The relay I use is this one :

You can see it wrapped up in old tyre inner tube for protection just above the battery, well that one is actually my winch relay but its the same one, my split charge one is on the other side by the original battery:

You can see all my accessory wiring there as well, lights, radio, cb e.t.c all run off second battery. The wiring is so simple to do as per the previous diagram, the only difference I have made is I use and ignition live and not an engine live, this means with the ignition on but engine off both batteries are connected, the idea behind this is if I get a flat starting battery I can back charge just by switching my ignition on, after a few mins enough power would have transfered across to start the engine. If you run off the ignition light curcuit from the alternator then only when the engines running will it connect the batteries.

The relays are about £14 each, I can get a roll of thick wire if needed although my large cable crimps are broke, I can still make wire up though using soldered connections if needs be but its a make it up at installation jobby really as you wont know lengths e.t.c.

I have also now installed an electric fan to help with any future overheating issues:

I managed to get two batteries under the passenger seat, they are a really tight fit, and got the split charger in there as well. can you not get one under drivers seat.

jon cheers mate not going to be able to make tye green missus had made plans for me  but defo bring the bits on our camping trip, looks like something that could be knocked up in an hour, maybe somthing to do in the evening, and what ever it comes to ill give you the money then, will see if i can get hold of a set of crimps

geof cant get any thing under the drivers seat as the fuel tank is there going to see if i can move the batt around in the batt tray under the passanger seat, if not i think ill bolt one down behind the rear bulkhead.

what type of batt should i be looking to get for the aux batt?

No probs, will bring all the bits with me to thetford, we can at least get it wired in I expect...

I would get one of these batteries:

Numax Deep Cycle Winch / Leisure Battery | eBay

Great VFM, they deliver 100CCA which is ideal for a winch, lots of instantr power, they also have a deep cycle which allows for slower low voltage output. Its what i'm running and it hasn't let me down yet...

Cheers Jon, looks like a plan. I've got to replace the wing, so the snorkel will need replumbing so it'll be an ideal time to move / replace the airbox.

Battery wise, I brought of these recently as my main battery was fubar.
Decent spec in a small case, so I'll probably just get another.
