Evening all. I have a 1.8 petrol with a soft cyl head in a manual. Have found an auto with a good motor. Question is will the motor split from the auto and bolt to the manual? Clearly have to install flywheel etc in place of converter drive plate . Help appreciated.

Your help is much appreciated. As I am going from the auto to the manual, I guess I dont need to change the ecu or trans oil cooler. Thanks again

They didn't do a 1.8 Freelander in an auto. Presumably you have an engine from an auto Rover car? You can use the engine but the box won't fit. You will need to swap the flex plate / drive plate for the flywheel using new bolts. Otherwise it's pretty easy ;)

The story so far- when I talked to the wreckers( sorry auto parts dismantlers) they said it was an auto, when I got there it turns out to be a manual. Tomorrow they will lift it out for me and the job can start. I appreciate the help from you blokes.

I was really hoping you were going to say the donor was a V6!
Would still love to see that...

You need to find one LR sold to the AA. They did make a manual v6. Very few, but they did do it. the Freelander race series allows them, and they only allow factory produced vehicles.

LR definitely missed a trick making the production V6, auto only. I suspect that was to keep our American cousins happy. Although I've now moved on to a Discovery 3 from a V6 Freelander, I'd still love to have a V6 manual Freelander as a play thing.
