just been looking at this site, they dont have any range rovers but you can go and strip a car for all you can get off it in 7 hours, they dont specify a persons limit so if anyone finds anything they would like we maybe could club together and attend enmasse to strip a full car and remove everything but the frame, cats and battery!!! might be worth keeping an eye on this place!!!

righty guys and gals ive now aquired the bottom half of engine that is gonna last me a life time!!! its going in over the w/end and it will be up and running by monday!!!

at the moment john if you look at any old heap of miscelanious car parts its as good as it gets but when the pc is installed and ive sorted the interior i will pop over!! i dont think i'm gonna do much to the little dings on the paintwork as it'll aquire a few more of them as its gonna go laneing when its reliable enough!!!:D:D:D:D

well today i have moved two steps closer to the rangey war been won by me!!

i managed to build up the new engine and get the old one out, sat the new one in place just got 4 bolts then about 6 bell housing bolts then it should be on the home straight. fingers crossed and sunday afternoon i should have it running!!!

well, i did say it'd be done before page 30 and i reckon tommorrow it will be running, only had about 4 hrs today and theres just exhaust and plumbing to do, alternator and aircon pump to put on and i can fill it and see where i stand!! oh and the plugs leads and coil pack!

had a bit of a tangle with the oil filter and thermostat, the thor engine(which i think this is) or at least this engine had a kind of 45 degree bend on the bit where the oil filter goes, unfortunately this the gets in the way of the stat. managed to undo the 4 bolts holding this extension on and the oil filter goes straight on!! bit of luck but if it seals it stays and save me the hassle of changing front cover!!!

and i also found the aircon fans today. they are where they should be so thats another bonus!!!

well boyz!!! its in, its sweet an i got a smile on my face!!!! got a small oil liak from either one of the pipes from cooler, oil filter or front case sesal, not too worried about that as its only a bit and i can sort that quite happily at my leisure!!!

i'm back in my v8!!!

just got to get rent in window a tyres sorted and i'm rolling!!!

i think this smile on my face could last a while!!!!

big thanks to all who have helped especially john and his keen eye and joe who supplied the block!!!

told you all it'd be done before page 30!!!!

well i nearly wet myself when it worked, worried like crazy when it was blowing steam and smoke out but let it get warm and it was fine. there is still a little blue smoke and it smells a little of burning oil but until its done a good few miles i wont be worrying about it. it probably just all the crap in the exhaust.

it sounds sweet although the bit of petrol that was in it has gone off i think or run out. ran sweet on gas all the way home, about 5 miles. only tootled home, didnt want to upset it. temp was steady at just over half, where it has always been when running good. no coolant loss, well just a little as it pressureised. ive got to sort that oil leak, its prolly the front case or oil filter seal. it'sll be getting a full service anyway once its ready to go back on the road.

i think i'm the most pleased member on here today!!! lol!!!

well done gav,the oil leak isn,t the o ring on the oilcooler pipes is it,im hapy this weekend,i got new wheels fitted,so my old ones im going to refurb and sell them as they are a little worn;)

o ring? i thort they were compression fitting on the oil pump side? if not then that could be my problem!!

i'm of the assumption that i have caused the leak or its something i have omitted, i might just put my old fron covet on with new seals as i had to modify the oil filter bit, i reckon its not sealed against the flange properly. it does look like its coming from above tho but as you all know there is very little space to see anything in that area. at first i thort it was the oil pressure switch but that is dry, i will get our gert to rev it tommorrow while i lay beneath it, if i can trust her that is!!!

Yeah Gav, the pipes are swaged and a thin "O" ring sits on the pipe to seal against the swage. I've mentioned it several times in previous posts, when you tighten the cooler hose connection on the bottom of the front cover, don't overdo it as the wall of the boss where the hose goes into is very thin and being over ambitious with the spanner will crack it..result..new front cover at around £200+ (Ouch)!!
You have done well to get her up & running,,,,Well done!!:clap2:

well done gav,i am glad about the motor.if you need anything else let me know, you never know i might be able to find that as well,ha,ha.what size tyres do you want as i have got some, once again well done buddy.:D:smokin::beer2::praise:

they are definatly o rings on my oil pump side, the one underneath near the sump and the one next to the oil filter.

they prolly disappeared when the engine was removed!!

i thort it was compression as mine didnt have any come off when i took the old one out but i reused the front cover so i bet they are wedged in the cover. anyone know what size they are or if you have any about could you measure em thick ness and ID please

i'd prefer rubber but wood will do if not!!:D:D:D

if you can keep that ear to the ground i'd appreciate it, you seem to have a nose for a bargain, i'm not sure what profile or width as its on mother in laws drive at the moment til its taxed!

i've got to go up to yard tommorrow so i'l get some o rings and see if i cant find that leak, and i'll let you know the size tyres.

i'm getting excited about finally driving my rangey again!! cant wait to get the old girl sorted fully and on the road!! got loads to do but most of it can be done while its roadworthy:cool::cool::cool::cool:
