Hi

As title really noticed it yesterday whilst towing the caravan, rear suspension rises stays up for a few seconds then drops back down. I had the lock out switched on so turned it off and that seemed to sort it for the journey home, however noticed it solo today so blows my just one of those things theory! Any ideas, has new airbags all round doesn't sink overnight pump seems to run quite frequently tho? Roughly a run every minute or so did a search on that and people seemed to say some do it but no explanation.

look at wammers how to, could be connections front left footwell behind kicker panel corroded
 
Did you check your nose weight on the towing coupling on your caravan before attaching it?. I loaded my R/R with boxes of wall tiles and adhesive once and when I removed them it did as you described. I think I took the rear height sensors out of their normal travel range.
 
Strange you mention that because it only happened after I took the van off the back and the suspension went right up because I left the door open. Is there a fix?
 
If I wanted reliable (boring, dull etc) I'd buy a Honda.... then hang myself. This only gets used for towing the caravan and nowt else (at least until I've got lpg on it). Wife has the reliable car I want something interesting and this definitely fulfills that!!! Loving it so far for a 17 year old car it is an awesome peice of machinery.

Yes leave the door shut and engine running when you disconnect the van. If the door is open no change can take place until it is shut. With the weight of the van being removed the extra air pressure in the bags to carry the load will lift the rear, it can't do a lot else.
 
Could that mess up the height sensor setting then? Had 1/2 tonne of slabs in the back yesterday and that was fine took a while to pump up from access height tho but rode flat even with the weight in. Just odd how it cycled to high at the rear even with suspension locked but when I let it do it's own thibg it was fine for the rest of the journey. Will get the lead and software and see what's happening. Will also run through the suspension tests.

Had this with mine a few years ago whilst towing-it always seemed that the back was rising then dropping. I then had a fault when towing to and back from the Lakes which I cleared with my EAS Kicker. I read the fault when it appeared once at home and it was to do with the pressure valve in the valve block.
It always went into hard fault after a hour or so.
I then drilled a series of ventilation holes in the EAS cover to get rid of excess heat.

Have not had a problem since and have towed the caravan quite a few times and the car does not seem to pitch up as it used to. I have not had a EAS fault in over a year.
I can only suspect that the aging electronics were overheating-there is very little standard ventilation in the EAS box-only on the sides and as we know heat rises.

+1 to the overheating in the EAS box. I've drilled the cover on mine and it's been much better. I can give you details if you wish,
Old height sensors accumulate crap on the tracks, run them beyond their normal range and they can give false readings for a while. a duff driver pack can also cause unrequested height changes, improving the cooling helps with that.

Half a ton of blocks needs a lot more air pressure in the rear bags to attain standard height. Obviously you need the tailgate open to remove them, with that open EAS operation is disconnected, as they are unloaded the extra pressure causes the rear to rise, that may take the sensors to a dirty part of the track out of their normal operation range. That can cause signal corruption.
 
Excellent info thanks guys. Got an EAS lead on it's way (Ta Datatek) so will have a look at live readings and see what's going on. Will check the pressure as per the how to then drill some holes in it but not sure it's a heat thing as it did it within 2 miles of home with no load in it. The possibility of the height sensor going out of normal range seems plausible. Is there anything on live readings that will show it?
