The starter motor plug is spliced in so likely not standard.

So on the loom you removed did 2 large brown go from alternator plug to starter motor?
2 others from multi plug to starter motor? If so loom is fine.

I haven’t unravelled the tape yet (as I’m sick of being covered in oil) however, in essence yes. 4 big fat brown wires connect to starter, assume two of which loop to the alternator. In addition there are the engine temp, oil pressure and starter exciter wires. Plus a wire I cannot yet identify that was in the alternator portion of the harness.

Is that the exciter wire for the alternator ?
You should have
Oil pressure
Water temperature
Diesel live/coil live
Exciter wire
2x alternator
2x starter live
Solenoid
(Any other cables?)

I removed the oil bath air filter yesterday to get better access to remove the engine harness. Anyway, I thought I’d shove it on the bench and have a look. I did notice a bit of residual oil on the cradle which I thought was odd. On taking it apart, no oil. Poured in some diesel and there is a tiny pin prick hole, well not anymore as it’s been brazed up. The filters don’t look too bad, then with no oil, they would be. I’ll clean it up and respray satin and it should be good to go. The hole has clearly been worn through by grit, so I’m wonder whether a sheet of rubber as a liner might be in order.

I got my gleaming shot blasted and painted wheels back yesterday, £160 well spent. Now to look for rubber. Paddocks do

7.50 x 16 Security ML814 Tube Type Tyre @£118 a corner.

Anyone bought these?
They look like they will be noisy… but the speeds you will be doing they will be fine

Troops, the build date on the V5 is 31 Dec 1979. Can I put black plates on it under the DVLA eligibility faff of 2015?
Not read the faff… all I know some black plates can’t be read by anpr and some other cameras. So you could get stoped more for checks or if motor is stolen they can’t use the cameras to track.

Looks ok

So the consensus is the vehicle is able to legally display black plates?
